Job Overview
We are seeking a talented individual to join our Ottawa-based IT team on an as-required basis.

Our Systems Administrator will implement various aspects of our company-wide Information Systems Management framework as well as support, troubleshoot, and maintain computer servers and networks.

This role will suit someone who is an analytical and logical thinker, and a proactive self-starter.

The ability to communicate and interact effectively within a team, as well as broadly across a range of key stakeholders, is also important.


Additionally, you will have:

  • A computer sciences diploma, Bachelor's degree (or higher) with a track record of academic achievement;
- experience working in a professional environment
- excellent problem-solving skills and a process-oriented mindset, with a high attention to detail and strong investigative capabilities.


Major Responsibilities and Duties:


  • Install system patches and updates
  • Troubleshooting and providing technical support to employees
  • Creating and managing system permissions and user accounts
  • Performing regular security tests and security monitoring
  • Maintaining networks and network file systems
  • Monitor, identify, and resolve production capacity, contention, and resource deficiencies
  • Configure, monitor and maintain the Local and Wide Area Networks
  • Configure and maintain Security devices pertaining to firewalls, IPS, DDoS, Proxy, LTM and DLP functionalities
  • Document and improve current IT infrastructure, processes, policies and procedures

Experience and Qualifications:


  • Must be eligible to obtain PWGSC security clearance
  • College diploma (or higher) in Computer Sciences
  • Indepth knowledge of operating systems (Windows and Linux) and familiarity with hardware
  • Knowledge of networks: Being able to set up and maintain Local Area Networks (LAN) and Wide Area Networks (WAN), in addition to setting up network security features like firewalls

Additional Desired Experience and Qualifications:


  • Bilingual (English and French strongly desired)
  • Certified SysOps Administrator an asset
  • Certification with any information security standard an asset
  • Familiarity with Hypervisor technology (Hyperv and vSphere/ESXi)
  • Experience with one or more diagramming tools (e.g., Visio)
  • Very good analytical and problem solving skills, with extreme commitment to quality and results
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills: In addition to working on a team, sysadmins will often be expected to help other employees that don't have the same technical knowledge, through help desk support or other means
  • Autonomous, dedicated, able to provide oncall 24x7 coverage when required
  • Extremely organized and diligent in maintaining consistency
  • Continually strives to improve IT's customer service delivery
  • Eager to learn business priorities and criticality of daytoday operations
