Position:

A Woman's Place Counsellor (1.0 EFT)

:

The overall objective of the position is to provide counseling to women, who have experienced domestic violence.

Direct service requirements could include the provision of in person counseling, telephone counseling, crisis intervention and facilitation of relevant group session and community development initiatives.

Additional requirements included, assessment, intervention and family counseling.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum Bachelor of Social Work degree
  • Minimum 2 years experience in counseling women, children and youth.
  • Thorough knowledge of the issues of spousal abuse, cycle of violence and the impact of violent behavior on women, children and youth.
  • Knowledge and experience working with diverse cultural & economic backgrounds.
  • Skills in counseling individuals and families using a nonjudgmental approach.
  • Skills in leadership and facilitation of groups.
  • Extensive knowledge of other community resources in order to make appropriate referrals.
  • Ability to work effectively with the Primary Care Team of Nor'West, offering and receiving consultation direction or guidance where necessary.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential.

DUTIES

  • Providing counselling to women who have been victims of various forms of violence, abuse, or threats.
  • Work within program parameters, policies, procedures and protocols for the Family Violence Program.
  • Provide assessment, counseling, crisis intervention and follow ups appropriate to referrals of women and children.
  • Develop and implement group sessions and community development initiatives focusing on support, education and presentation.
  • Liaise and provide referrals to other community resources as appropriate.
  • Participate in case conferences and case consultation as appropriate internally and externally with other agencies.
  • Keep accurate, uptodate statistics on client and other agency encounters.
  • Would be responsible for case management and consultation with other service providers. Develops individual service plans to assist clients in developing and achieving their goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Must have or be able to attain a Criminal Record check (Vulnerable Sector).
  • May be required to work in the evenings.
Salary range:

$30.830-$37.924 per hour. (MAHCP Union)
