- Implement and continuously improve Recreation Support Services (coordination of one on one support (within the scope of the recreation division) for individuals to participate in programs.
- Assist with the development of staff tools and training resources that enhances an enjoyable, welcoming, safe environment for all participants
- Provide consulting/coaching services to recreation staff with regards to participant behaviour within recreation programs.
- Through consultation with recreation staff coordinate, implement and continuously improve Recreation Support Services within the Recreation and Culture Division.
- Assist with the development and implementation of standard operating procedures, training, and coaching /consulting with staff to support a culture of welcoming, enjoyable, safe recreation programs specifically for individuals who live with one or more disabilities or chronic conditions.
- Consult with participants and their advocates (e.g. family members, caregivers) to identify interests and accommodations required to support success and participation in recreation programs and services.
- Liaise with recreation staff to match participants with programs and services that will meet their interests and needs.
- To coach full and part time staff to follow the individual recreation plan and implement required accommodations.
- Assist with the hiring, training, scheduling, supervision and evaluation of part time staff and volunteers with regards to Recreation Support Services
- Provide resources, training and ongoing support to motivate, inspire, develop and influence staff and volunteers to deliver high quality, welcoming, enjoyable recreation programs and services for individuals living with one or more disabilities or chronic conditions.
- Provide on-site support to staff and participants throughout the city as required to encourage participation within the scope of the recreation division.
- Encourage and assist staff to monitor participant progression/regression and recommend/implement program updates and/or modifications as required based on participant needs, preferences and experiences with the aim of increasing comfort and ability to participate independently in programs wherever possible.
- Liaise, communicate and negotiate with Community Agencies as necessary for information, resources, referrals to encourage participation in recreation and other community programs/services with appropriate supports and assistance.
- Complete administrative responsibilities as required and perform other duties as assigned
- Degree or diploma in one of the following areas: Recreation, Recreation Therapy, Disability Studies, Behaviour Sciences, Adapted Physical Education/Activity, Health Sciences, Kinesiology, Physiotherapy, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 3 years' experience, in the municipal recreation setting in program planning, staff training, program delivery/teaching and part time staff supervision.
- Experience with recreation program design and delivery for individuals who live with one or more disabilities, chronic conditions, behaviour management concerns. Experience with both children and adults is an asset.
- Knowledge of best practices and key issues related to accessibility and inclusion practices in aquatics, fitness and community program settings.
- Must possess exceptional customer service and communication skills.
- Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends at locations throughout the City of Mississauga.
- Must hold and maintain current Emergency First Aid/CPR-C from one of the following agencies: Lifesaving Society, Red Cross, St. John Ambulance or Canadian Ski Patrol,
- Must hold or be willing to obtain High Five Principals of Healthy Childhood Development
- Must be able to demonstrate advanced skills in :

- Ability to work in a changing environment and have an interest in broadening your experience is required.
- Ability to travel efficiently to multiple work locations for site visits and meetings.
- Excellent computer skills in Microsoft applications.
- Knowledge of SAP, SharePoint and ActiveNet is a definite asset.
- Criminal Record Search-Vulnerable Sector Screening that is acceptable to the City of Mississauga will be required of the successful candidate.

Creating recreation opportunities through coordination of the Recreation Support Services program, a one on one program for individuals who require support/accommodations to participate in programs.

The City of Mississauga Recreation and Culture Division is looking for an individual to join our team in the position of Recreation Programmer Inclusion - Recreation Support Services.
Implement and evaluate the Recreation Support Services (a one on one support program) matching individuals living with disabilities with staff to facilitate a positive, safe recreation experience. Coach and provide assistance to recreation staff with regards to individuals who display behaviours inconsistent with the safe, welcoming, operation of our programs and services.
