MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:


The Diagnostic Imaging and Cardiorespiratory Manager is responsible for the coordination and provision of Diagnostic Imaging and Cardiorespiratory Services for Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC).

The Manager will ensure that MAHC provides effective, efficient, and safe technological operation in compliance with all legal requirements and accepted ethical and professional practices expected in a diagnostic imaging and cardiorespiratory service in accordance with standards, policies and procedures of the hospital and all regulating bodies.

These functions are conducted in accordance with the directives of the departmental Medical Directors and Administration.

The Diagnostic Imaging and Cardiorespiratory Manager is responsible for fostering the collaborative working relationships necessary amongst staff, hospital departments, customers and Diagnostic Imaging Medical Director to achieve and maintain excellence in healthcare.


1.

Planning and Organization:


  • Plans, organizes, directs, and supervises all functions of the Diagnostic Imaging and cardiorespiratory services within the departments and across all sites
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures to achieve departmental objectives.
  • Prepares and implements short
- and long-term planning for the departments.

  • Coordinates the work of the staff in each of the departments and works with other leaders to coordinate care to all patients in a seamless manner.
  • Coordinates a wide variety of administrative, fiscal, and technical activities to ensure the efficient operation of the departments.
  • Works to enhance the competencies of clinical staff, support staff and allied health professionals working within the Diagnostic Imaging and cardiorespiratory portfolio.
  • Represents the interests of MAHC in regional generated activities and planning regarding Diagnostic Imaging and cardiorespiratory.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of a safe working environment in all departments within the aforementioned portfolio and coordinates the development and updating of policy and procedure manuals to such end.

2.

Financial Management:


  • Prepares departmental budgets (operating and capital) which are then submitted for approval.
  • Monitors, analyses, and acts upon monthly financial and quality management indicators to ensure appropriate service and resource utilization.
  • Participates in the evaluation and purchase of products, equipment, and equipment service contracts as required.
  • Monitors and facilitates the ordering and inventory control of all supplies and equipment.
  • Provides monthly workload and other required statistics in a timely manner.

Human Resource Management:


  • Creates an environment that is conducive to high morale and motivates staff toward realization of departmental and organizational goals.
  • Responsible to promote staff learning, professional growth, and staff development.
  • Responsible to ensure creation of schedules that meet the requirements of the union contract but allow nurses the maximum worklife balance possible in a 24/7 and oncall environment.
  • Directs and supervises staff and support staff in the Diagnostic Imaging and cardiorespiratory departments. Interviews, selects, and coordinates the orientation of all departmental staff. Ensures that all necessary learning and skills/competency development is undertaken and completed.
  • Prepares and evaluates performance reviews on all staff in keeping with MAHC policies.
  • Recommends disciplinary action or termination for staff in collaboration with the Administration and Human Resources.
  • Communicates to physicians, other departments, or organizations, regarding issues affecting patient care which falls within the portfolio of the Manager of Diagnostic Imaging and Cardiorespiratory.
  • Assists in labour relations and union meetings as required.

4.

Quality Assurance:


  • Assists with the administration of the radiation safety program by ensuring the usage, exchange, inspection of monitoring devices in accordance with federal standards and procedures.
  • Maintains uptodate statistical information regarding productivity, efficiency, and effectiveness of the department and quality control activities.
  • Informs the Diagnostic Imaging Medical Director of any major Quality Control problems and works collaboratively to resolve any concerns.
  • Coordinates development and maintenance of all Quality Management Programs and assures that they meet the required standards.
  • Coordinates development and maintenance of a patient focused Quality Assurance Program for the departments and ensures ongoing evaluation of the quality of services and the performance of all personnel. This includes patient satisfaction, benchmarking within and outside MAHC, quality audits, infection control audits, etc.
  • Takes an active role in accreditation preparation.
