Summer Music Instructor

Rate of pay:
$45.41 per hour

  • Reporting to the Camp Director, the Summer Music Instructor, will support the existing summer music _
- camp and be responsible for instructing participants how to play various musical instruments. The Summer _

  • Music Instructor, will also arrange, conduct and manage participant performances and conduct full _
- orchestra where applicable


Summary of Duties:

Responsible for instructing and managing students in the program;

  • Provide quality instruction on musical instruments to participants attending the camps;
  • Provide master classes, coach small ensembles and conduct a string orchestra where applicable;
  • Lead indoor and outdoor physical activities, music appreciation and spirit day activities;
  • Manage and maintain inventory of instruments and music;
  • Design appropriate programs and lesson plans for participants in the camps;
  • Select and provide suitable and culturally appropriate resources for participants in the camps;
  • Liaise with Camp Assistants;
  • Make minor repairs to instruments if needed;
  • Supervision of students throughout the duration of the camp;
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Experience in instructing and leading ensembles and various musical groups, or an equivalent

combination of education and experience;
Experience instructing music to children in a school or studio setting;
Ability to supervise participants as required, resolve conflicts and take appropriate action in

emergency situations according to Board policies and procedures;
Knowledge of effective music teaching and learning strategies;
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written;
Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
Ability to make minor repairs to instruments;
Ability to move/carry large instruments, chairs, stands and other equipment for the camps;
Ability to manage and maintain inventories of instruments and music; and

Familiarity with related safety practices.
