Position Description:

***The role of the Registered Kinesiologist at the Pain Clinic is in both therapeutic assessment and treatment.
To provide active therapy guidance with focus on patient goals of functional restoration and improving quality of life. Therapy lead in consultation and treatment provided to patients suffering with chronic and complex pain states.

To serve and deliver all new patients with the important and relevant pain education material to help empower our patient-centered approach to care and to facilitate their active engagement in the therapeutic cycle.

To design and deliver the most appropriate therapy care plan on an individualized case by case basis.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology or Health related field required
  • Master's Degree in Rehabilitation Sciences preferred
  • Current Registration in good standing with the college of Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, or R. Kinesiology is required
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Proven ability to function well within an interdisciplinary team environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge, sensitivity and expertise in the care of the chronic pain population, seniors and their families
  • Gentle Persuasive Approach training preferred

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • 11 Therapy Sessions; providing active movement therapy guidance and in facilitation of their functional recovery
  • Self-Management/Movement Therapy Class; therapy lead in delivering the most evidencebased approaches to movement therapy and active patient engagement, in a group setting; adjusting movement therapy content to match individual patient needs
  • Orientation Session; entry point for all new patients; therapy colead in delivering most up to date research and understanding of the neurophysiological process behind the complexity of chronic pain states
  • Self-Management Class; indepth pain education content to help our patients better understand their own important role in the management of chronic pain
  • To empower our patients with the knowledge necessary to better understand their own experience with pain; to engage our patients in the therapeutic process; to direct our patients to be fully informed and prepared for our team approach at initial consultation and to deliver patientcentered care
  • Interdisciplinary Team Assessment; available for all new consults, to be involved with pain physician and team initial consultation visit; functional abilities assessment, safety at home/falls risk assessment, assessment of the impact of pain on their daily function, quality of life, and overall wellbeing
  • Treatment Planning; based on assessment at initial consultation visit, to provide the most appropriate treatment recommendations to match patient needs and patient goals; motivational interviewing, active patient engagement in open discussion, and in facilitation of the therapeutic process
  • 11 Assessment by Pain Physician Referral; assessment intake following pain history and physical functional abilities
  • Ongoing program development to remain up to date with current pain research, pain neuroscience, and best approaches to active pain management
  • Orientation Session; Self-Management Education Sessions; Movement Therapy Class
  • Patient scheduling, communications, referrals, MyDovetale onboarding, etc.
  • Availability and coverage for StayWell Program

HOURS OF WORK
Monday to Friday, days. Based on clinic need, there may be requirement to work occasional evenings and weekends.
