Job Summary:

Hours of Work
40 hours per week and shifts are a requirement of this position. Any five (5) shifts of eight (8) consecutive hours 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. to 1:00 am, Sunday through Saturday.


Your role

  • Perform refrigeration, program and repairperson duties in the development, maintenance and operation of the Sleeman Centre, a multiuse spectator facility.
  • Performs programming duties as required.
  • Assist in compliance with license agreements as negotiated with the Storm Hockey Club, Special Event organizers and other facility users.
  • Maintains facility quality and safety by adhering to predetermined building operating standards.
  • Assists in building or system repairs/services with contractors and service companies where required.
  • Communicates with team members using facility schedules and coordinating equipment requirements.
  • Reports and follows up on all building incidents.
  • Troubleshoots and makes adjustments to mechanical, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, roof systems and handling systems. Repairs include, but are not limited to carpentry, painting, masonry and drywall; assist in maintaining energy management and BAS systems.
  • Aids in the preparation of statistical information of building use.
  • Acts as a resource person to Sleeman Centre customers and staff.
  • General housekeeping duties such as sweeping, mopping, shovelling, cleaning, garbage pickup, and restocking of supplies.
  • Be versed and competent in the installation, maintenance and removal of artificial ice.
  • Event conversion tasks such as covering and uncovering ice, glass removal and installation, stage & riser assembly, chair sets & strikes as well as various tasks associated with multi spectator special event presentations.
  • This position may be temporarily assigned to assist in another facility on an as required bases.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, refrigeration, painting, roofing systems and handling systems, masonry and drywall.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Health and Safety Act.
  • Working cooperatively with other team members is an important part of this position.
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to resolve customer inquiries/complaints in an effective manner.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills with the ability to communicate with public and all levels of staff.
  • Basic computer skills using Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
  • Able to perform physical work (e.g. lifting, climbing, walking, working at heights etc.).
  • Reliable selfstarter, able to make decisions and function with minimum supervision.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid First Aid/CPR Certificate.
  • Successful completion of the Basic Refrigeration program as offered by ORFA would be an asset.
  • Forklift operator and elevated platform training would be an asset.

Rate
CUPE Local 241 Grade: 3 $29.43 per hour
