Reporting to the Manager, Inflight, the Leader, Base Operations is expected to work a 40-hour work week and have the flexibility to respond after hours as required, with heavier workload during peak periods and irregular operations i.e., Holidays, cancellations, and delays.

There may also be adhoc assignments to assist within the leadership team as assigned by the Manager, Inflight.

The Leader, Base Operations is responsible for the Inflight operational support for Swoop Flight Attendants.

This includes but is not limited to adherence to standard operating procedures & ability management, safety reporting activity/promoting Swoop's safety culture and meeting on time performance milestones (SPOT).

This position also carries the responsibility to influence the behavior of Flight Attendants to meet other business objectives.

Major Duties

Staff Management/Leadership

  • Conduct performance management in coordination with the Performance Advisor, Inflight and the Swoop People team, in accordance with Swoop guidelines;
  • Coach, mentor, motivate and support Flight Attendants with emphasis on the Lead Flight Attendants;
  • Provide clear, consistent, and timely feedback;
  • Conduct regular gate/ramp visits to maintain management visibility and accessibility to Flight Attendants;
  • Responsible for developing and supporting excellent employee relations and performance;
  • Ensure staffing levels meet both short and longterm objectives and requirements;
  • Maintain Flight Attendant qualification and fly as a Lead or Line Flight Attendant as needed.
Operational Activities

  • Manage Inflight program/project implementation initiatives specific to the operation;
  • Follow up with Flight Attendants on Operational Reports, questions, and concerns in a timely manner;
  • Inflight liaison for all operational matters (e.g., Airports/Operations, Crew Scheduling, OCC etc.);
  • Responsible for all Inflight forms relevant to the operation e.g., IARS, IBR's.;
  • Investigate and respond to internal and external feedback about Flight Attendant operational performance;
  • Responsible to ensure that all onboard manuals & documentation (Flight Attendant Manual (FAM), Cabin Operations Manual, etc.) are updated with bulletins, revisions, or amendments as applicable;
  • Aircraft Entry into Service involvement;
  • Responsible for Inflight's Operational Performance (SPOT/OTP);
  • Responsible to maintain the Flight Attendant Experience List (FAEL);
  • Responsible for the Inflight Assessment Reporting.
Safety

  • Conduct Lead Flight Attendant (LFA) workshops with focus on operation/safety;
  • Preparation of risk assessments/hazard analysis under SMS;
  • Ensure followup with Flight Attendants on Incident Hazard Reports (IHRs).
Strategy

  • Responsible for best practices related to operational management to ensure a highly engaged workforce that is informed, high performing, and aligned to the traveller experience deliverables;
  • Liaise with other Company departments to ensure consistency among standard policies and procedures;
  • Evaluate base processes and identify opportunity to improve effectiveness & efficiency;
  • Ensure the continuous improvement of people relations among the bases;
  • Shared accountability for base costs, expenditures, and budget variances.
Stakeholder Engagement

  • Working collaboratively with internal stakeholders including Flight Operations, Crew Planning and Crew Scheduling as well as external agencies (i.e., CATSA, Pass Control, Airport Authority);
  • Proactively identify and communicate the key issues within Inflight to the Manager, Inflight;
  • Building relationships through open and honest communication, focusing on the development of Flight Attendants through coaching and mentorship.
Education/Qualifications

  • 5+ years in a leadership role with a demonstrated balance of direct and indirect leadership;
  • Industry experience within the Inflight area is a requirement;
  • Proven knowledge of Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARS) Parts 1, V, VI, VII;
  • Proven track record of developing effective teams;
  • Ability to multitask & handle changing priorities;
  • Airline Systems (Sabre, COMPLY 365, CrewTrac);
  • Able to work within a matrix organizational structure and collaborate across business lines from individual contributors to executives;
