Description
12+ years experience working with SQL Server in production environments (at least 3 of those years must be with SQL Server 2017 and higher) \u252- 5+ years must be with high-transaction OLTP instances running 50k batch requests/sec

  • Expert knowledge of SQL Server Availability Groups with a minimum of 6 years working with them in production environments and a thorough understanding of their use cases, problems, and pitfalls
  • 3+ years of experience working with Distributed Availability Groups

Roles & Responsibilities

  • 5+ years working with SQL Server on Azure (both PaaS and SaaS offerings)
  • Proven ability to manage databases 40TB in size containing tables with 1B rows
  • Experience migrating multiterabyte SQL Server databases to Azure without downtime
  • Demonstrated understanding of SQL Server wait stats how they are used and what ones are relevant
  • Knowledge of query options and hints what ones exist and when you would consider using them
  • High level of knowledge of Windows Server and WSFC with an understanding of things needed to
  • Extensive experience with PowerShell and creating your own modules for management and automation in SQL Server environments (beyond basic use of community created modules such as DBA Tools)
  • Ability to look at a query and understand where performance problems may reside before looking at a query plan
  • Understand a query plan, what's relevant, what isn't, and how to tune things for performance without just adding another index
  • Able to speak the language of other teams (such as networking, AD, cloud, devops) to facilitate productive communications
  • Knowledge of what breaks in SQL Server at scale and how to mitigate those issues
  • Comprehensive understanding of SQL Server features and the knowledge to know when and when not to use them
  • Be the go to person when there's a SQL Server issue and be able to quickly and efficiently triage issues and recover from them
  • Extensive experience with database design this goes beyond just understanding 3NF
  • Comfort working with git Bonus Items
  • Experience with SolarWinds SQL Sentry and knowledge to get under the covers and extract more data than provided by the clients
  • Ability to guide and support more junior team members
  • Comfort with helping development team increase code quality by adding to and refining existing standard

Job Type:
Fixed term contract

Contract length: 6 months


Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
