As a Laboratory Analyst, your main responsibilities are to:
Instrument Analyst to perform complex sample analyses of semi-volatile compounds in water and soil samples, using Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry instrumentation

  • Performs instrument calibration, verification, and maintenance and IMM LIMS records.
  • Understands analysis procedures, methods, principles and instrument troubleshooting.
  • Adheres to BV Code of Ethics Policy.
  • Complies with all BV policies, Quality System and Health & Safety program.
  • Ensures a high level of accuracy in sample preparations and analyses.
  • Understands analytical procedures and develops problem solving skills.
  • Provides input to corrective action procedures.
  • Actively involve and ensure that instruments and equipment are well maintained.
  • Follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Performs sample dilutions and procedures prior to analyses.
  • Identifies any nonroutine samples and seeks guidance on procedures for handling.
  • Suggests and helps to implement production efficiencies.
  • Maintains training records and relevant qualifications, participates in proficiency testing programs and method audits.
  • Meets quality and TAT specifications required by the client and ensure samples are analyzed within holding time requirements.
  • Identifies and communicates nonconformances to Team Leaders and Laboratory Supervisor.
  • Applies proper laboratory techniques to minimize risk of mislabeling, sample mixup and cross contamination between samples and other materials.
  • Is proactive in ensuring that consumable supplies are available in the lab.
  • Acts as a positive change agent in supporting BVs new initiatives (operational and cultural).
  • Participates in required Health and Safety activities and proactively promotes safe work practices.
  • All other responsibilities as assigned.

You are the ideal Laboratory Analyst, if you have a:

  • Post-secondary education in Science or an equivalent combination of education and instrumentation experience with a minimum of five years' experience in a related area of testing and instrumentation.
  • Experience with Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry, including maintenance and troubleshooting is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Chem Station and Mass Hunter software.
  • Flexible to perform varying duties to accommodate changing priorities.
  • Good timemanagement, written and oral communication and multitasking skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Detailoriented with accurate record keeping skills.
  • Excellent computer skills, including MS office.
  • Ability to accurately follow Standard operating Procedures (SOPs) and instructions.
  • Energetic and motivated with a positive outlook.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment.
