Support Staff Full-time Replacement Position

(First consideration for Support Staff and Academic positions will be given to internal applicants in accordance with the respective Collective Agreements)

Clients will include unemployed or underemployed individuals seeking employment & training support.

The incumbent will be responsible for pre-screening for intake, and initial assessment on how the centre can assist with the employment and training goals of the client.


Employer connections will support those seeking guidance for posting job vacancies with Conestoga, arranging recruitment events to connect with job seekers, and information on how to access the hiring supports available through the Career Centre.

Community agencies will also connect through this role to the Career Centre for referrals, and to develop impactful partnerships.

The incumbent will organize and lead the Stratford Career Centre team for participation in community events and employer recruitment activities.


The key accountability of this position is to provide leadership by meeting the Centre's contractual agreement for intake registration by marketing the services, creating opportunities for engagement with prospective clients, and providing a pathway for registrations for employment & training services.


Responsibilities:


  • Ability to work in a fastpaced environment and within an outcomesbased performance model
  • Records appropriate data on each prospective student/client into the case management software or database upon entering the centre
  • Follows the "no prospective client/student turned away" philosophy
  • Interfaces with program coordinators, continuing education, and corporate training to stay current with academic programs and link prospective students with coordinators and graduating students with employment supports
  • Interfaces with parents of current and prospective students, when appropriate, and refers to organizations
  • Refers clients as appropriate to other campus or College services, academic upgrading, testing such as TOWES, IELTS, and college admissions
  • Researches, assesses, and advises clients and Career Centre colleagues of additional information and resources in the areas of career planning, employment options, and program admission requirements
  • Provides client access to career assessments, online tools related to career exploration and job search portals such as, MyCareer or VMock
  • Participates, organizes, and assists in Conestoga College recruitment and community events
  • Actively engages in and creates marketing content for meaningful engagement for outreach and marketing activities to promote Career Centre services, including social media, such as LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, enewsletters, etc.
  • Maintains an agency database of community organizations for referring partnership arrangements.
  • Liaises with community service providers and their clients to provide guidance on post
- secondary programs and the admissions process

  • Represents Career Centre and Conestoga College interests at outside organizations and community development conversations

Qualifications:

  • Twoyear Diploma in Communication, Human/Social Services, Marketing, Public Relations, Career Development, or related field is required
  • Three years of experience working in an educational setting career advising, Human Resources, Employment Centres, and Immigration Settlement Centres
  • Life Skills Coach Certificate or Career Development Practitioner Diploma or courses is considered an asset
  • Strong computer skills with a proven ability to produce marketing materials using Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint, and Publisher
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills
  • Presentation experience and skills are important
  • Ability to respond with tact and diplomacy, while valuing diversity
  • Superior customer service orientation and attention to detail
  • Highly organized to be effective
  • Ability to establish and maintain manual and electronic filing systems
  • Solid decisionmaking, problemsolving, assessment, analytic and evaluation skills
  • Work effectively as part of a team and independently
  • Ability to work objectively with very diverse populations


Hours of work will reflect the hours of the Career Centre - 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday, with some evening and weekend hours as necessary.
