Position Summary


As a
Advisor-Occupational Health and Safety within our
HR Health and Safety Department, you will be responsible for the development, implementation and enhancement of organizational occupational health and safety programs, the analysis of health and safety reports to determine trends and making recommendations on preventative or corrective measures.


Responsibilities

What will your typical day look like?

  • Assists in the development of health and safety safe work practices and Directives.
  • Provides advice, guidance and support to members on issues pertaining to Occupational Health and Safety matters.
  • Assists in the preparation of health and safety presentations and training, safety advisories, brochures and other material to raise hazard awareness.
  • Performs accident investigations to identify basic cause and provide recommendations for the prevention of similar incidents.
  • Maintains and analyzes data relating to Joint Occupational Health and Safety Workplace Inspections using the Parklane Disability Management System. Inputs, updates and reviews data to identify and follow up with assigned areas to ensure that workplace hazards are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates the collection and analysis of health and safety information and produces reports and statistical information on relevant OHS data and provides recommendations for improvement.
  • Disseminates Occupational Health and Safety information, including Meeting Minutes and Workplace Inspection reports to Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee members and posts information on intranet site; develops and maintains the OH&S Intranet site.
  • Supports the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee and acts as a resource for health and safety issues. Attends health and safety meetings and participates in workplace inspections, accident investigations and safety training courses.
  • Identifies members requiring Workplace Inspection training; coordinates and schedules training, assists in the preparation of training materials and assists in the facilitation of the training.
  • Maintains Fire Warden listing; schedules Fire Warden training; maintains drill reports.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

You are someone with:


  • A Post-Secondary diploma/degree/certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, or equivalent. Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation, Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST), and/or Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC) preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of two years' experience in the Occupational Health and Safety field required

  • Demonstrated knowledge in developing health and safety programs and systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge in essential elements of the health and safety function such as: legislation, accident prevention, industrial hygiene standards

  • Demonstrated training and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a highly confidential and sensitive environment
  • Working knowledge of related legislation pertinent to the function including Occupational Health & Safety Act and Workplace Safety and Insurance Act preferred
  • Valid Ontario Driver's Licence (Class G) with full driving privileges

What we offer
The salary range for this
permanent, full-time position is
$56, $88,993.00 per annum.


Peel Regional Police offers a highly competitive compensation package; applicants will be considered for the top end of the range
($67, $88,993.00) based on experience.
