Job Summary


This role oversees project site work processes and is responsible for construction activities within the established design, budget and scheduling guidelines.

This includes planning, scheduling, organizing, directing, and controlling activities on project sites.


The role is responsible for timely communication and proactive coordination with other managers and sub-contractors on site, and with Customers or their agents.

The role is accountable for decision-making to ensure the effective planning and utilization of material and human resources on site that prevents conflicts in workflow to ensure that work is completed safely, accurately, on time, and meets Company quality standards.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership Oversight

  • Accountable for planning workforce and materials needs, ensuring all assigned Projects and tasks are efficiently and profitably managed and completed.
  • The role is the key contact for reviewing and resolving issues and concerns with Project performance, P&L, subcontractors, suppliers, A/R (invoicing), and claims.
  • Provides direction and/or support to Subcontractors, Project Managers, Junior Superintendents, Project Coordinator, Field Engineers, and Foremen who may be assigned to the site.
  • Ensures Company safe operating procedures are being followed for all work undertaken on site with a focus on achieving zero accidents/incidents.

Planning/Financial

  • Collaborates with the Project Manager in the development of estimates, budgets and work schedules for assigned projects. This includes preparing biweekly schedules.
  • Resolves Customer and Subcontractor disputes as expeditiously as possible.
  • Reviews P & L status and cash flow forecasts for Projects, as well as Critical Path schedule, and adjusts as appropriate.
  • Keeps all stakeholders advised on status, progress, and issues related to the work site.
  • Actively participates in Close Out
  • Stand and Deliver Meetings providing critical information and recommendations to the executive leadership team.

Operating

  • Abiding and enforcing contract specifications and regulations e.g. OPSS TCBC with oversight from senior management.
  • Coordinates with the Project Manager to monitor progress of work completed against schedules and budget and takes actions as appropriate to ensure work is ontime and on budget. Submits schedule updates to the Project Scheduler.
  • Responsible for inspecting and approving all work on assigned site performed by Company workers and/or Subcontractors. Performance Issues are reported to Senior Site Superintendent or Operations Manager.
  • Reviews and signs off on all Health Safety and Environment inspections and reports.
  • In conjunction with the Project Manager, prepares Progress Certificates and ensures accuracy and timely submission of Progress billings.
  • Chairs weekly meetings and Two Week Look Ahead with Contractor and Subcontractors.
  • Reviews and approves Worker daily time sheets tracking and reporting to Payroll.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum College Diploma (Civil preferred) or equivalent construction industry experience.
  • 3 to 5 years' supervisor (people management) experience within the Construction Industry.
  • Experience in planning, scheduling and coordinating construction work mandatory.
  • Exposure to provincial/municipal government contracts an asset.
  • Experience in Health Safety and Environment responsibilities

Demonstrated Management Skills

  • High level of personal stress management. Ability to retain focus while addressing challenges, and prioritize conflicting demands.
  • Excellent Critical Thinking and Problem Solving skills. Able to find solutions to complex issues/challenges and mitigate risks.
  • Independent. Able to make sound decisions with only occasional direction.
  • Strong delegating and performance management skills, supported by planning, budgeting, and scheduling acumen.

Working Conditions

Travel Requirements
Daily within GTA.


Physical Environment
Moderate to High intensity. 20% office. 80% construction site visits. Some exposure to disagreeable conditions (inclement weather).


Physical Demand
Moderate. Walking, sitting, lifting 5lbs or less - occasionally. Consistent computer/laptop exposure.


Mental Effort
Moderate intensity. Occasional challenges that demand higher level impact, focus.
