This is a temporary Sessional Faculty position (up to 35 hours per week) ending August 31, 2024.
Duties
:

Reporting to the Director, Counselling and Accessibility Services, the incumbent is responsible for providing personal counselling and psychotherapy services to College students with a focus on personal, mental health and addiction issues, and developing psychoeducational programming and materials from an anti-oppressive, trauma-informed perspective.

Working from a client-centred and trauma-informed framework, the Personal Counsellor will also support students with appropriate referrals to College and community partners.

Qualifications**- Master's degree in Social Work, Counselling Psychology or a related discipline, including a supervised clinical internship

  • Professional registration required to practice psychotherapy in the province of Ontario with the College of Registered Psychotherapists (CRPO), or the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW)
  • Minimum 3 years' recent, relevant experience
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered; preference will be given to applicants meeting the education requirements
  • Experience in a postsecondary setting is beneficial and strongly preferred
  • Experience working with racialized, marginalized, and other underrepresented groups
  • Experience working with individuals who have experienced oppression, racism, homophobia, transphobia and/or ableism
  • Demonstrated ability to support students in crisis, including assessment of risk, and making appropriate referrals is required
  • Knowledge of harm reduction models, education and prevention strategies, for individuals living with addictions and substance use problems is an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and strong interpersonal skills required
  • Strong commitment and demonstrated ability to working collaboratively as part of a team, and in accordance with all legal and ethical requirements
