Position Summary:


Martin Luther University College (Luther) is seeking a strategic communications professional for the full-time position of Manager, Strategic Communications and Marketing.


The Manager will be responsible for:

  • Amplifying Martin Luther University College's brand and reputation as a national leader in equipping people for leadership in the world, the community and the church
  • Preparing, implementing, evaluating, and renewing as needed, a collegewide communications and marketing plan including an annual calendar
  • Partnering with the college's donor relations and recruitment teams to support Luther's longterm vibrancy and sustainability
  • Cultivating communications and marketing competencies within the college's centres to support their respective missions
  • Engaging with current students about Luthersponsored experiences to enrich their academic life

Accountabilities:
As the lead communications and marketing expert at the college, the Senior Manager, Strategic Communications is relied on to:

  • Lead the research, analysis, communication and evaluation of an integrated, comprehensive communications and marketing plan that advances the college's strategic plan and aligns with its brand and values
  • Create and manage a collegewide calendar of events and initiatives
  • Develop strategic communications frameworks, principles, and policies that guide work inside the college across multiple areas (e.g., advancement, centres, recruitment, student engagement)
  • Affirm and monitor the use of Luther's visual identity (logo, colours, fonts, imagery and language) to ensure consistency in its branding
  • Negotiate and manage the communications and marketing annual budget
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the Principal-Dean, particularly during emergency or reputational risk
  • Develop, maintain and, if needed, activate the college's issues management plan
  • Participate in committees, listservs and other collaborative opportunities to advance appreciation for Luther's gifts with the broader Laurier community
  • Supervise the student relations / social media officer
  • Collaborate with internal Laurier partners to execute communications and marketing initiatives that promote the programs and reputations of both institutions

Professional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, marketing, a related field, or a combination of education and experience
  • Minimum five years progressive experience developing and leading strategic initiatives using traditional and online communications, digital media, media relations and other techniques

Core Competencies:

  • Demonstrated experience in planning, managing and measuring outcomes for communications and marketing initiatives
  • Past experience with media relations, issues management and crisis communications
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and oral communication skills and proficiency in communicating and engaging effectively with a wide range of audiences using Canadian Press Style
  • Prior design, development, production, and coordination of online, social and print materials
  • Demonstrated ability to build collegial relationships based on trust and mutual respect
  • Must be comfortable working in a faithbased community
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and work effectively in a team environment
  • Possess strong planning and organization skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Supervisory experience an asset
  • Experience in a postsecondary environment preferred

Differentiating competencies:

  • Willingness to complete accreditation from either the Canadian Public Relations Society (APR) or the International Association of Business Communicators (ABC)
  • Advanced software skills using Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)
  • Photography and videography knowledge
  • Previous donor relations experience

Salary Notes:
Vacation is three weeks per year. Additionally, employees receive a one-week break during the December holidays. Benefits include 7% RRSP contribution from employer plus extended health and dental benefits.

Compensation:
Range between $80,000 and $90,000 annually
