Position Status:
Full Time/ Permanent (40 hrs/ week)


The Organization


Rupertsland Institute (RLI) is an affiliate of the Métis Nation of Alberta and has a triple mandate in education, training, and research.

With a decentralized network of 10 METIS centres, a Corporate Head Office in Edmonton, and two mobile service units; RLI designs and delivers training and education services to more than 140,000 Alberta Métis.

The Opportunity
Reporting to the Director of Métis Endowments & Post

  • Secondary Initiatives, the Métis Student Services Centre Coordinator will work out of the newly developed, first of its kind, Métis Student Centre at Norquest College. This position will assist in providing administrative support to the Métis Student Services (MSS) team in order to support and enhance Student Supports.

Responsibilities:


  • Assist in providing administrative support to the MSS Team throughout the planning and implementation of cultural and community engagement events and activities.
  • Works closely with colleagues who focus in the areas of Indigenous and international engagement, supporting their activities and developing events and activities that may focus on these unique portfolio needs and/ or expands to the full faculty and student population
  • Works to facilitate connections and conversations between students, Faculty, Indigenous Students Centre, and other university units to build trusting relationships and collaborate on initiatives as applicable.
  • Ability to learn the student services, cultural and community events offered by Norquest College, Métis Nation of Alberta and affiliates.
  • Support the administrative functions of the Student Services Centre to enhance student experience
  • Ability to learn the student services offered by Rupertsland Institute; Including but not limited to:

  • Provision of a cultural, safe space for Métis learners at Norquest

Cultural, career and academic advising to Métis learners

Support Métis students on their transition to employment and the labour market

Fostering new relationships with Métis learners at Norquest and deepening relationships with the college overall

Fostering access to funding and wrap-around supports for Métis learners at Norquest

Increasing student access to individual supports established by RLI on campus

Qualifications:


  • Undergraduate degree focusing on communications or human services preferred.
  • 23 years experience in postsecondary student engagement or student services preferred
  • Must be located in Edmonton, or in close proximity to commute to the Norquest Edmonton,AB office.
  • Knowledge of Métis culture, community, and history. Experience working with Indigenous groups is an asset.
  • Strong prioritization, time management, and multitasking skills.
  • Innovative problemsolving skills. Able to provide creative ideas to support RLI's corporate business plan.
  • Able to work independently and with a team.
