About the Organization

Job Summary

  • Reporting to the Lead Investigator & Lab Head, the Research Coordinator will be responsible for managing the grant partnerships including facilitating meetings and hosting geospatial data repositories. The Research Coordinator will conduct desktop and synthesis research about ecological forestry in the Wabanaki forest, including constructing and managing geodatabases, and will also manage fieldwork logistics, serve as a field assistant, where necessary, and meet regularly with external and internal partners in the forestry sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Schedule, convene, and cofacilitate virtual biweekly meetings of the Core Team and three quarterly research cluster committees, as well as lead the design of inperson and virtual workshops for the partnership and external organizations.
  • Track all grant deliverables and the grant budget using project management software, and support team members with deliverable completion and reporting.
  • Develop a web presence and communications products (social media, policy briefs, press releases, blogs, etc.) for the partnership and related research, including a geospatial platform gathering relevant studies and information.
  • Build basic graphic design for communications products (e.g., PowerPoint templates).
  • Create and maintain geodatabases of relevant information, and make these available on a publicfacing platform.

Note

  • The
-
successful applicant will primarily work remotely, with occasional presence in-person on-campus to meet client needs and operation requirements.
Evening and weekend work may be required on an occasional basis to meet operational requirements.
Infrequent travel to communities in Nova Scotia for meetings, workshops, and fieldwork will be required.


Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in resource and environmental management, policy studies, environmental science, or a relevant field (or a combination of education, professional and/or lived experience).
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively within a team and engage in respectful conversation and conflict management.
  • Experience in project coordination and management, budgeting/finances, and report writing.

Assets

  • Master's degree in resource and environmental management, policy studies, environmental science, or a relevant field.
  • Experience managing and executing large projects, including overseeing budgets, along with experience planning and hosting events and contributing to the development and writing of academic papers.
  • Fieldwork experience related to environmental sampling and monitoring.
  • Experience communicating scientific information to a lay audience, particularly through blogs and the web.
  • Familiarity with antioppression and justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion frameworks.
  • Intermediate or higher level experience with GIS software (e.g., ESRI ArcGIS, qGIS).
