The Lead IT Operations Technical - Data Centers plays a key role in the strategy, development and the on-going maintenance of the Ontario Health's Hardware infrastructure including Data Centre power, space, production hardware and service support.

The position provides technical expertise in support of Ontario Health's data centre environments.

The position coordinates and manages the operations of IT hardware infrastructure at the data centres including Data Centre power, space, structured cabling, production hardware and service support and supports a highly available and highly secure environment designed to meet the needs of Ontario Health.


Here is what you will be doing:

  • Works alongside management to oversee the creation, planning and implementation of the Ontario Health's hardware infrastructure strategy.
  • Plan, forecast and manage the Data Centre physical capacity including assets, power, space, structured cabling and resources.
  • Identify and implement cost effective hardware management programs within Ontario Health.
  • Manage on-going vendor relationship to ensure service level and business objectives are met.
  • Work on projects for the planning and design of solutions for data centre infrastructure.
  • Manage raised floor and rack space capacity to satisfy projects requirements and growth demands including assigning floor and rack space with consideration of cooling, power and cabling requirements.
  • Produce detailed and accurate plans and instructions for Move, Add and Change in Data Centres.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve cabling and connectivity problems within the Data Centre environment.
  • Coordinate change requests between Data Centre vendor teams and internal Operations teams
  • Participate in short-term and long-term capacity assessment, maintenance activities and operational planning necessary to sustain Data Centre operations.
  • Participate in discussions with colleagues, clients, technical advisors and managers to explain issues of a technical nature or to resolve technical issues.
  • Design cabling distribution to accommodate current requirements, growth and to be scalable for future needs.
  • Create, update and maintain all data centre related documentation with a high-level of accuracy.
  • Coordinate technical requirements with vendors and ensure current and future requirements are being met
  • Maintain currency in Data Centre best practices, trends and development.
  • Monitor and address Incidents and Service Requests assigned to team.
Here is what you will need to be successful:

Education and Experience- University Degree or diploma ideally in computer science or engineering or equivalent experience- Minimum 10 years of technical support experience in complex IT environment.

Data Centre experience, on raised-floor operations and in planning.- Extensive work experience in a Tier 3 and Tier 4 Data Centre environment.

Minimum 10 Years of Data Centre experience, on raised-floor and in planning.- Experience working in colocation data centre services and working in a lights-out data-centre environment.


Knowledge and Skills- Demonstrable knowledge in designing and implementing Structured cabling for Copper and Fibre, Equipment racking, Electrical, Cooling.- Extensive working knowledge in all IT infrastructure components, (i.e., Physical and Virtual Servers, SAN, Network Equipment, Firewalls, Load-Balancers etc).- Advance knowledge of infrastructure capacity planning and systems support- Knowledge of network and systems support- Knowledge of Storage technologies- Demonstrate extensive working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Visio.- Demonstrate extensive working knowledge of Corporate software, (e.g., Remedy, SharePoint).- Working knowledge of a DCIM product will be preferred (e.g., Sunbird dcTrack).- Strong ability to work with mínimal supervision and use own initiative.- Knowledge of ITSM practices (i.e., Change, Incident, Problem, Configuration and Service management).
