Duties & Responsibilities
The Safety & Training Manager duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Management of the health, safety, compliance, and training functions within company at all locations in BC and AB
  • Work in partnership with senior management to promote a health and safety culture
  • Develop health and safety goals for the company ensuring they meet all fiscal, strategic and legislative requirements
  • Oversee and continually develop the companywide training program for field workers (drivers and warehouse personnel)
  • Be apprised of all legislation changes as it related to the department, making system changes and/or communicating them to the appropriate persons as needed to maintain compliance
  • Continual communication of health and safety information to all levels within the company through memos, bulletins, meetings, tailgate talks, and more.
  • Maintain all requirements for COR certification, including participating in the yearly audits
  • Oversee the JOHSC's activities at the various worksites to ensure their continued effectiveness in the overall safety program
  • Manage all incidents to ensure proper procedure is followed at branch level and documentation is accurate, complete and remitted to authorities as needed
  • Participate in workplace injury management, including development of return to work plans and appeals
  • Ensure company is meeting or exceeding all legislative requirements
  • Continually assessing the safety knowledge within the various levels of the company, and making recommendations for training to address those gaps
  • Develop, host and/or coordinate training sessions in various topics as needed
  • Conduct regular audits of all terminal sites in BC and AB throughout the year to ensure they are compliant with regulatory and corporate requirements
  • Coordinate with various departments in order to achieve mutual goals and maintain efficiencies

Qualifications

  • Postsecondary education in Occupational Health and Safety or related field; or 5 years' experience as a Safety coordinator or similar role
  • Experience in transportation environment preferred
  • Proficient in MS Office including Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Must be extremely organized and a selfstarter; able to work with limited supervision
  • Strong interpersonal and troubleshooting skills; deals with conflict effectively
  • Must be a strong multitasker and excel at balancing conflicting priorities and deadlines.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the workers' compensation legislation.
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Must be a highly motivated, service and teamoriented individual with an attention to detail.
  • Enthusiasm for challenge and new initiatives are prerequisites.
