Description

Thank you for your interest in the Sign Language Interpreter position with the York Region District School Board!

You may also be considered for temporary and/or permanent opportunities throughout the year.
Casual Positions: Cover absences of permanent employees ranging from daily to 30 consecutive working days.
Temporary Positions: Available for a period exceeding 30 consecutive working days to replace a permanent employee on leave.
Permanent Positions: Full-time roles (35 hours per week).

Major Responsibilities:

Translate between spoken and sign language for deaf/hard of hearing individuals.
Provide sign interpretation services to integrate students with peers.
Prepare materials in advance for clearer interpretation.
Ensure appropriate environment for students to access interpreted message.
Participate in educational team meetings and assist with progress monitoring.
Provide note taking services when necessary.
Assist in educating staff, parents, and students on the needs of deaf/hard of hearing students.
Attend meetings and professional development sessions.
Perform other assigned duties.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

Secondary School Graduation Diploma with a three-year recognized community college diploma or university degree from an accredited interpreter training program.
Minimum one year related experience required.

Additional Information:

Employees are expected to work at least 30 days within the current school year to stay on the casual list.
