Job Summary


The Manager, System Development is responsible for working on initiatives supporting the corporate vision of transforming Engineering and Railroading through the continuous and expanded use of systems and technologies.

The position is a liaison between the Engineering and Information and Technology (I&T) departments and works with other internal and external business partners.

The role facilitates a common understanding between parties by eliciting requirements from Engineering, implementing business systems, providing insights through analytics and prioritizing workload for the team and I&T.

The role requires understanding of both Engineering and I&T processes and requires solid analytical, leadership and influencing skills to get the job done.


Main Responsibilities

  • Contributes to strategic systems development and evolution within Engineering by evaluating business requirements, identifying benefits, and assessing feasibility, and efforts required to deliver solutions
  • Define the business architecture in terms of strategy, business capability, value streams, organizational and transformation models, as well as roadmaps to support the current and future business state and vision
  • Direct accountability for execution of assigned strategic initiatives
  • Acts as the key point of contact between Engineering, I&T, and other stakeholders
  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise (SME), track progress of key deliverables, and make adjustments and corrections
  • Direct accountability for design, implementation and distribution of key metrics and insights aimed at driving process improvement and management oversight capabilities
  • Develop a framework for data analytics in order to provide business insights through the evaluation of traditional and nontraditional data
  • Conduct oversight in relation to data processing efforts to ensure timely identification and correction of issues
  • Identify opportunities for process changes and tools to improve data quality
  • Manage a team, overseeing their activities to ensure alignment and timely delivery of outputs
Working Conditions

The role is performed in a standard office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday.

Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and stress.

The role requires mínimal travel (10%) across Canada and the United States (U.S.)


Requirements:

Experience

Business Analytics and Project Delivery

  • Minimum 7 years of work experience in business analytics and project delivery
  • Experience in Railroad and Engineering field operations
  • Experience in technology and systems integration
  • Experience in providing recommendations to senior leaders with appropriate justification
  • Experience gathering requirements from multiple stakeholder groups and synthesizing them into an integrated set representing the needs of all
Education/Certification/Designation

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Business, or equivalent education or experience

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Fluently bilingual both written and verbal (English, French)
  • Knowledge of Systems, Applications, and Products (SAP) Tableau, Power BI, Business Objectives and CN systems (Track Inspection System (TIS), Engineering Reliability Analytics (ERA), Autonomous Track Inspection Program (ATIP))
  • Any knowledge for any of the above would be considered as an asset
