Position Overview


Rheum4U Precision Health Registry (Rheum4U) is a comprehensive, web-based data platform that enables prospective longitudinal data collection and integration for patients with inflammatory arthritis across two Calgary rheumatology outpatient clinics.


Founded in 2016, Rheum4U is an initiative undertaken by clinicians and researchers within the Division of Rheumatology to create an inflammatory arthritis registry that captures patient demographics, treatments, and outcomes over the continuum of care.

It is the largest registry of its kind in Alberta.


The Project Manager plays a critical role in the high-level leadership of Rheum4U, working closely with the Principal Investigator and Rheum4U Executive Committee to determine the course of the Program.

This requires working closely with faculty members and research staff and being a liaison to a multitude of internal and external stakeholders including the Cumming School of Medicine, Alberta Health Services, the University of Calgary, University of Alberta, the McCaig Institute for Bone & Joint Health, industry partners and others.

This is a Maternity Leave Replacement position.


Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Project & Operations Management
  • Perform research tasks of moderate to high complexity
  • Oversee day to day projects and operations of the Rheum4U program
  • Identifying business goals and plans
  • Recommend best practices for Rheum4U program
  • Coordinate work flow and workloads, and review work to ensure consistency of practices
  • Design, implement, monitor, and consult with leaders on research projects, programs and objectives
  • Required to maintain, update, and manage relevant research data and information
  • Support the data extraction, data analysis, and reporting processes
  • Conduct evaluations and assessments and provide consulting services to internal and external stakeholders, produce technical documents for publication, and lead project plans from conception to completion
  • Develop and execute project plans that will realize the vision and objectives of the Rheum4U Program
  • Lead the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of future phases of Rheum4U
  • Develop, implement, and design policy that governs the Program
  • Manage projects effectively, on time, on budget and aligned with the vision of the Rheum4U Program
  • Prepare and submit Rheum4U Program documentation and other deliverables (technical, financial, and research related) as required by stakeholders, funding agencies and collaborators
  • Responsible to ensure ongoing maintenance of Rheum4U programs & procedures
  • Facilitate requirements gathering sessions and draft technical requirements documents
  • Design Rheum4U system interface based on identified requirements
  • Draft, document, and communicate functional requirements, design requirements, and acceptance criteria to database developer (Epicore)
  • Create and execute testing plans
  • Create and execute project plans for system development to be completed as documented, on time, and on budget
  • Work with key stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation of the Rheum4U Program in clinical settings
  • Design and write Standard Operating Protocols
  • Ensure Rheum4U compliance with Standard Operating Protocols
  • Provide ongoing technical insights and troubleshooting support for the Rheum4U Platform
  • Staff Management
  • Fullscope management of Rheum4U research coordinators
  • Responsible for the development of job descriptions, interviewing and hiring of new staff, contract renewal, verification of timesheets, training, workflow analysis
  • Complete performance evaluations and follow up accordingly including performance management, discipline, and termination as required
  • Develop and foster working relationships with team members outside of the Division of Rheumatology (clinic staff, analysts, program developers and others)
  • Creates a culture within the team that enables and promotes continual improvement
  • Mentor and train staff members
  • Identify and encourage staff members to enroll in appropriate training and professional development
  • Support the committees of the Rheum4U governance structure (i.e., Executive Committee, Industry Advisory Committee, etc.)
  • Communications/Relationships
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders
  • Manage relationships with external vendors and ensure deliverables are provided as specified
  • Develop communications strategy for the Rheum4U Program
  • Provide regular Rheum4U Program status reports to stakeholders.
  • Develop and deliver training and training materials to the Rheum4U users
  • Develop guidelines for appropriate use of Rheum4U systems outputs and reports.
  • Assists with preparation of scientific posters, abstracts, manuscripts and presentations related to Rheum4U
  • Update Rheum4U website and develop and circulate program newsletter
