Nature of the work:

  • Under the supervision of the Coordinator
  • Project Manager, Renovations and Infrastructure, the incumbent will participate in the management of all types of work aimed at maintaining real estate assets in good condition, making them more energy efficient, and ensuring that they are brought up to code, in a spirit of sustainability of the built heritage.
  • The incumbent's main role will be to ensure the planning and coordination of projectrealization activities involving communications, stakeholders, risk management, cost control, or schedules for the rehabilitation and catchup maintenance projects of Dawson College's building stock.
  • The responsibilities of this position specifically include project management, including construction, conservation and organization design, including analysis, planning, design, evaluation, development, project realization, monitoring, consulting, and research and development functions related to the College's movable and immovable property (buildings, grounds, and facilities), including planning and programming, energy management, space management, security and emergency preparedness, and sustainable development

Responsibilities:


  • Participate in the preparation of specifications and in the bidding process.
  • Collaborate in analyzing bids, making recommendations, and participating in the selection of contractors.
  • Coordinate projects entrusted to external professional firms for the various stages of a project, from design to completion, and ensure compliance with legislation, regulations, and College standards.
  • Meet with stakeholders in order to clearly identify the objectives and needs related to the projects entrusted to them, particularly in construction, asset maintenance, remodelling, and rehabilitation.
  • Collaborate in the conceptualization of projects, analyze problems, conduct the necessary research, and find solutions.
  • Submit appropriate recommendations to the bodies involved.
  • Provide external professionals with all the information required for project realization and advise, through studies, research, expertise, or other information, the College's stakeholders on specific problems, taking into account the standards in force and institutional standards.
  • Follow work advancement in accordance with contracts and occupational health and safety standards and participate in site meetings.
  • Ensure adherence to the schedule by service providers and contractors.
  • Assume responsibility for the budgetary followup of assigned projects, and coordinate the processing of official documents inherent to the construction projects.
  • Ensure the quality of the realization of the mandates of the professionals as well as the contractors.
  • Represent the College in dealings with partner firms, ministerial departments, and external agencies, as required, and produce necessary documents in accordance with needs.
  • May be called upon to develop and conduct preparatory studies, to establish the technical specifications of various projects and their architectural treatment, to design plans of diagrams and drawings, to contribute to the development of projects, to participate in the selection of materials, and to estimate costs.
  • Provide technical advice related to their expertise in architecture and design, as required.
  • Evaluate and rank the work required and make appropriate recommendations to management and multidisciplinary teams to support decision making.
  • Ensure technological, legislative, and administrative watch.
  • Provide professional, quality customer service.
  • Perform any other duties related to the position, as required.

Requirements:


  • Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree in a specialized discipline, specifically Architecture.
  • Conditions:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction project management OR any other combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Being a member of the Ordre des architectes du Québec, an asset.
  • Advanced English and French verbal and written communication skills (testing may be required)
  • Ability to make concepts easily understandable and to summarize technical opinions in a structured manner, taking into account the experience of the audience
  • Good analytical sense and decisionmaking judgment
  • Ability to work on several files simultaneously and to set priorities
  • Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines
  • Good adaptability and decisionmaking ability when faced with unexpected problems
  • Strong aptitude for teamwork and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment
  • Ability to manage projects independently
  • Political sense to give the right information to the right stakeholders while maintaining cohesion among all those involved.
