Role:Reporting to the Director, Quality Assurance and Technical Services, the General Supervisor of Survey Services is responsible for leading a team of surveyors and engineers who provide field surveying and geomatics engineering in support of the successful design and delivery of the capital construction program. The team is composed of two leads with a total team size of approximately 50 permanent and seasonal staff.
Goals and deliverables:
- Lead, establish and exemplify the desired culture throughout the Section, that supports the Integrated Infrastructure Services Vision and Mission as well as the Corporate Cultural Commitments and Leadership Competencies
- Engage and support staff in developing action plans to enhance communication, creative problem solving, promote integration and support excellence
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to build relationships and ensure a fully integrated approach to design, delivery and operations
- Planning and managing resources to ensure survey projects are delivered on time, on budget and within scope
- Assist in leading and implementing all aspects of the City's OH&S Program
- Ensure that practicing engineers are adhering to the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) regulatory requirements, including qualifications and training, and adherence to the City of Edmonton's Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP)
- Ensure the effectiveness and continual improvement of service delivery through the development of comprehensive key performance indicators, and accurate and transparent reporting
- Assist the Director in the preparation of the annual budget documentation for the Section's operating and capital budget accounts
- Monitor and control the Survey Services' expenditures and revenue on an appropriate basis and report on budget variances
- Build strong relationships with business partners to develop new and improved methods of project planning and delivery
Qualifications:
- Knowledge, training and/or education in Geomatics Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Geomatics Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related discipline
- Membership or eligibility for membership with the Association of Science and Engineering Technology (ASET), Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA), Alberta Land Surveyors Association or a related association
- P.Eng requires the member to be in good standing, or eligible for membership, with APEGA
- Experience in geomatics engineering or surveying, including experience in a leadership role within a large, complex organization
- Experience managing and working with external consultants
- Previous experience working within a unionized environment is considered an asset
