NAC is currently seeking a full time Junior Electrical Estimator to join our Head Office Estimating Team located in Morriston, ON.

Electrical tradespeople, apprentices, Technologists or Engineers, with a passion for construction, and who are detail oriented, are encouraged to apply.


Position Summary:
The Junior Estimator is an entry-level position where the individual will learn the fundamental principles within the Estimating Department.

This position is interactive, as the individual will coordinate with other disciplines (mechanical and civil) within and outside the estimating department, participate in dept.

meetings & functions, and support the operations dept. post tender with estimate reviews & issues.

The employee will understand and implement their basic responsibilities and aid other estimators during and after the Bid Tendering Stage.


  • Understand electrical installation methods including lighting/120v, 60027k volt distribution, instrumentation, fire alarm, security, heat trace, cable trays, feeders, and equipment wiring
  • Accurately cost: Control and Instrumentation Division 13, Mechanical Control Wiring Division 15, Electrical Division 16 and Structured Cable Division 17 on any size project in its entirety
  • Coordinate solicitation to subtrades and suppliers with Pipeline Invitation Software
  • Know the project scope of work
  • Complete all related divisional estimates for NAC as per the Electrical Estimating Bidding Policies and Procedures
  • Prepare cost codes to reflect the department cost code setup strategy
  • Provide technical assistance to the construction project team to form a link between the concept/scope of estimate and the execution of work
  • Present estimates, cost codes and participate in review meetings with operations
  • Prepare for, communicate and interact effectively during coordination meetings in transferring or acquiring all overlapping scope or risk items of the work
  • Maintain files of working documents as backup for estimate figures, including current (accurate) information on prices from suppliers through direct contact, price lists, etc.
  • Prepare and navigate through all estimating support software, to rapidly understand and analyze quotes for missing scope and to minimize risk to the company

Requirements:


  • Possess a postsecondary degree or diploma in an Electrical engineering or technology, or an Electrical trade certification, or apprentice
  • Electrical construction experience is an asset
  • Maintain a professional image and demeanor with all employees, management, executives and external contacts at all times
  • Adhere to established work procedures of the estimating department
  • Selfmotivated to learn while demonstrating a strong work ethic
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work well under pressure, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines for assigned tasks and tender closings
  • Practical experience with Microsoft Office suite such as; Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Ability to read and interpret building specifications, blueprints and asbuilds
  • Effective mathematical and analytical skills to do material and labour estimates and to interpret job cost reports
  • Desire to use costestimating software to prepare cost quotes and bids
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills
  • Proven ability to problemsolve using a variety of creative methods
  • Ability to work effectively with a team, and establish and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues
  • Ability to work independently, while displaying strong time management skills
  • Effective negotiation and diplomacy skills
