    The Civil Engineering Departments within the Candu Energy is engaged in nuclear civil engineering work involving structural analysis, civil design, ageing management to support the life extension, plant modification and service work of existing Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs) and New Builds.

    Civil/Structural engineers are required to perform structural and seismic analysis, seismic margin assessment, and structural design as well as prepare and issue analysis, design, and assessment documents.

    Candu Energy looking to hire multiple Civil/Structural engineers for full time term/permanent positions.

    The types of engineering work include structural and seismic analysis, structural design check and assessment of structures, systems, and components.

    Documentation to be produced include analysis reports, design calculations, design Reports, technical specifications, and design requirements.

    The candidate should be familiar with the use of one analysis program such as ANSYS, SAP2000, STAAD Pro, SSASI, ETABS, SAFE etc.

    Play a lead role in the assigned project(s).
    Provide technical instructions to staff, as needed;
    Manage project civil scope within budget and schedule;
    Formulate and developing advanced techniques and concepts in Civil/Structural Engineering;
    Develop conceptual design, preliminary design and detailed design deliverables including calculations, layouts and sketches, drawings, technical specifications etc.;
    Review detailed design calculations and analysis for structural systems involving steel, reinforced concrete and masonry elements as per the relevant CSA Standards and applicable codes;
    Coordinate structural work with the work of other engineering disciplines;
    Perform design review or design verification on technical documents prepared by others;
    Ensure the quality and consistency, accuracy, and completeness of engineering deliverables;
    Compliance with applicable QA procedures and being responsible for producing quality work;
    Provide technical guidance, and applying sound Engineering principles to resolve technical issues;
    Provide technical guidance and Engineering support for performing design and construction activities;
    Deliver all technical engineering deliverables/task within specified timelines and budgets with good quality;
    Investigating and reporting on field problems;
    Support analysis of structural systems and elements as required using Analysis Software programs such as ANSYS, SAP2000, STAAD Pro, SSASI and other structural programs;
    Assist in timely and quality project delivery;
    Assist supporting Engineers in day to day engineering activities and coordination;
    Review technical specification documents;
    Ensure the quality and consistency, accuracy, and neatness of engineering deliverables;
    Apply sound engineering principles to assigned engineering activities;
    Accountable for the delivering all engineering deliverables/task to achieve project objectives within specified timelines and budgets
    Provide technical instructions to Junior staff or designers to develop engineering documentation;
    Review and comment on the work performed by the others to ensure accuracy, completeness and quality of technical information and design documentation;
    Check the work performed meets the quality requirements in accordance with Company QA programs and manuals;

    Perform plant walkdowns as and if required in support of design requirements definition and detailed engineering of design modifications.

    Provide engineering input and support to Field Engineering groups;
    Obtain inputs as required from plant commissioning, operations, and maintenance personnel and client engineering and scientific specialists in interfacing disciplines;
    Participate in formal engineering design and other reviews as may be mandated for the design changes in question;
    Prepare Engineering estimate and technical write-up for proposals;
    Mentor Junior staff.
    Civil Engineering degree from an accredited University with minimum 15 years of structural analysis and design experience in steel and concrete structures in Nuclear Power Plants and/or industrial buildings;
    ~ Master degree and above is an asset;
    ~ Deep and thorough understanding of structural engineering gained through a combination of design-office and site experience;
    ~ Deep and thorough understanding of structural engineering principles gained through a combination of design-office and site experience;
    ~3 to 5 years of site or field experience in Nuclear Power Plants and/or industrial buildings is an asset;
    ~ Thorough knowledge of Canadian and International Codes and standards used in Civil/Structural engineering;
    ~ Thorough knowledge of use of at least one Analysis software commonly used in Civil/Structural engineering such as StaadPro, SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, etc.
    ~ Must have experience with static, dynamic and seismic analysis of structures and foundations;
    ~ Thorough knowledge of Microsoft office and Mathcad;
    ~ Adequate knowledge of established Nuclear QA guidelines, procedures and practices is preferable;
    ~ Adequate knowledge of applicable Nuclear safety codes and regulations is an asset
    ~ Sound knowledge of Civil/Structural Engineering principles;
    ~ Knowledge of modification process of Nuclear Power Plant; ECC process or similar is an asset;
    ~ Must undertake assigned engineering work independently;
    ~ Must be willing to work in multiple tasks/projects;
    ~ Must have experience in working in a project environment;
    ~ Must be willing to work at field on assignment;
    ~ Self-motivated, and be able to seek practical solutions to engineering problems;
    ~ Travel to client site is required.
