Position Summary:


Reporting to the Manager, Aviation Programs and Coordination, this role is responsible for the coordination of airside activities including all airside movement areas, aerial devices onsite and offsite, and Remote Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) to ensure safe, and efficient airport flow while mitigating operational risk to as low as practicable.

Airside Coordination Specialists also assist and support the Aviation Compliance Specialists in maintaining the Transport Canada operating Airport Certificate.

This is achieved via the execution of the Airside Activity Program, gate and taxilane restrictions, and the aircraft stand mix (ASM) and associated dependencies (i.e.

gate placards, bridging restrictions, A-VDGS).

Airside Coordination Specialists ensure programmed activities are planned in conformance to the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) and all other applicable Transport Canada aviation standards (e.g.

TP31- Aerodrome Standards & Recommended Practices).


Key Accountabilities:


  • Participate in planning and coordination sessions related to the development of the annual capital construction program in advance of the construction season; Assesses, develops and coordinates plans for the airside construction program through preplanning sessions with GTAA departments, NAV Canada, Airlines, and other members of the airport community
  • Fulfill the function of the Airside Activity Coordinator via the Airside Activity Program (AAP) to coordinate all airside activities related to planned construction, routine maintenance, and adhoc/special event requests to ensure the optimum operational flow of the airport on a daytoday basis
  • Support dayof staff as need arises during normal business hours related to airside coordination activities and emergency closure requirements
  • Generate NoticestoAirmen (NOTAMs) and Voice NOTAMs (VNs) as required for nondayof activities
  • Monitor Airside Coordination, Crane, and RPAS inboxes
  • Assess airside coordination, Crane and RPAS requests to determine operational and system impacts
  • Develop and issue airside activity permits utilizing the MAXIMO (RMAX) software
  • Responsible for chairing the weekly Airside Activity Coordination meeting between internal and external partners. Completing weekly closure maps and distributing the minutes to relevant partners
  • Develop materials and assist in chairing the Monthly Airline Coordination Meeting
  • Support projects during planning, execution, monitoring and control, and closeout phases including conducting reviews of design and phasing drawings, developing and reviewing plans of operation, attending project meetings, and monitoring project process ensuring safety, compliance and operational integrity are protected.
  • Conduct technical assessments and preparation of drawings using CAD/Microstation software
  • Plan, modify and update aircraft stands and apron taxi lanes to ensure safe, compliant operations and support GTAA Engineering through operational reviews
  • Design adhoc parking plans and assess adhoc nonstandard aircraft movements

Qualifications:


  • Postsecondary school diploma or degree with an Aviation, Engineering or Business focus
  • Project Management Professional designation an asset
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in airport operations or airline operations
  • Experience in the provision of Apron Advisory, Air Traffic Control ATC, Flight Service Specialist FSS, Flight Dispatch or flying experience would be a distinct asset
  • Experience with civil construction activities, or any airside technical related activities would be a distinct asset
  • Valid Provincial G Class Drivers' License
  • Must possess a D/AVOP permit or be able to obtain within 30 days
  • Must possess an Aeronautical Radio License
  • Obtain and retain Transportation Security Clearance at the designated level for the position
