Description

This position has the following responsibilities:

  • Controls personnel traffic in and out of plant.
  • Controls all vehicular traffic into the secure compound area by checking for proper I.D. and the contents of the vehicles.
  • Controls and operates secure compound gates from the Security Office.
  • Conducts body and package search of personnel leaving areas of high value by monitoring metal arch, using a handheld metal detector, and an xray unit.
  • Monitors all electronic surveillance systems in Control Centre.
  • Installs and removes seals on doors as required.
  • Conducts patrols checking for locked doors, unsecured metal, unsecured confidential documents and any other security or safety violations.
  • Perform facility searches and random inspections.
  • Involved in conducting investigations and providing detailed reports
  • Answers all incoming calls in a professional manner.
  • Acts as an escort for contractors and witness representatives.
  • Witness time setting and locking of vaults ensuring appropriate hours are set on time locks.
  • Respond to any alarms, which come into the Security Office.
  • Performs other tasks including, taking pictures for employee I.D. cards and personnel files, Raises and lowers flags in compound, maintains key control system, completes daily logs and forms.
  • Scan all trash from Production area checking for precious metal and other unauthorized items.
  • Performs various jobrelated duties as delegated or assigned.
SCOPE/DIMENSIONS

  • The incumbent will work closely with a team of security officers in the security control room and will also interact regularly with internal employees and external guests, visitors, contractors and delivery companies. The incumbent must be able to make decisions that impact the safety and security of Company assets and employees and exercise good judgement in this regard. The incumbent will implement access control, enforce company policies and procedures, provide emergency response and deal with inquiries in person and over the phone.
  • This position enforces the Company's security policy to ensure protection of assets and employees. The position provides information and in consultation with the Security Supervisor or Manager will make decisions and enforce policies.
  • The position provides an essential service to the operation of the business as security of Company assets cannot be maintained or enforced without this role in place.

SPECIAL FACTORS/WORKING ENVIRONMENT
This position is required to work either 12 or 8 hour rotating shifts, weekends and holidays. There may be a requirement to work on short notice to cover emergency duty. The position may be required to stand for long periods of time while conducting contractor escorts.


WORK ENVIRONMENT


While performing the duties of this job the incumbent may be exposed to various weather conditions while carrying out duties outside including controlling vehicular traffic on the premises, conducting perimeter patrols and escorts to external secured areas.

Other job functions take place inside within the secured and unsecured part of the plant.

While conducting a visitor escort in the secured part of the plant, the incumbent may be exposed to noise and the production processes taking place in the immediate area.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS


The incumbent must be able to perform frequent bending while conducting body searches of personnel and visitors leaving the secured part of the plant.

The incumbent must use close vision in monitoring CCTV cameras.

While performing the duties of the job, the incumbent must be able to regularly use hands and arms in performing searches using the hand-held metal detector wand.

The incumbent is required to frequently walk and sit to perform duties of the job. Lifting of up to 25lbs may be required while checking garbage for high value product.


Qualifications for this position are:


  • A degree or diploma focusing on criminal justice, criminology and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience working in a high security environment or 3 years of relevant work experience
  • Valid Security Guard License
  • Surveillance training/experience in a production environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office and Security Technology software
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends and holidays (including 12 and 8 hour shifts)
