Great Pacific Media is looking for a
SUPERVISING STORY EDITOR to join our team on an upcoming factual production.

Reporting to the Series Producer and Line Producer, you would be working on a big show that's fast-paced with lots of moving pieces.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:


  • Support the Series Producer in achieving their creative vision by preparing and crafting engaging and entertaining stories at a preliminary level.
  • Managing the story team on a day to day basis and delegating tasks to the team.
  • Evaluate all footage that comes in from the field, with a critical creative eye, and advising on what might work within an episode, while collaborating with the Series Producer and Senior Story Editor.
  • Once footage has been categorized, organized, and reviewed, map out a rough structure for the episode which will be provided to the story editor and picture editor.
  • Overseeing the day to day of the story associates in markingup footage, creating stringouts of scenes, etc.
  • Determining any pickups that are needed and liaising with story producing/production team to ensure they have this information as soon as possible.
  • Assisting episodic story editors and picture editors as their episodes develop (footage requests, stock footage, archival requests, etc.)
  • Keeping track of season continuity and identifying any conflicts that could disrupt the flow of the episode/series.
  • Overseeing how the story team tracks, prioritizes, and evaluates content to ensure this is done as effectively and efficiently as possible.
  • Writing interview questions as needed.
  • Tracking who needs what and when, filtering requests for additional footage, and organizing requests across all episodes.
  • Writing on episodes if/as needed.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:


  • Selfstarter who takes initiative to problemsolve, manage their team and workload, and think ahead to what is needed for future episodes.
  • An advanced understanding and aptitude for unscripted storytelling and what makes for good story.
  • Excellent management and leadership skills, delivering feedback effectively while training and coaching more junior team members as and when needed.
  • Attention to detail with a creative and visual storytelling sense.
  • Strong organization skills and ability to create/follow organizational and cataloguing systems.
  • Excellent time management skills and an ability to work within tight deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Adept at using Avid Media Composer
  • Currently legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Must be able to work onsite at our Burnaby office fulltime.
