Shelter Movers is a national, volunteer-powered charitable organization providing moving and storage services at no cost to individuals and families fleeing abuse.
We collaborate with local businesses and community agencies to support people, primarily women and children, as they transition to a life free of violence.
Every year, in collaboration with community partners, our volunteer teams contribute over 15,000 hours to support people transitioning to lives free of violence and abuse.

The Chapter Director oversees the daily operations of a chapter to realize Shelter Movers' mission and vision, supporting survivors of abuse.
Working collaboratively with National Functional Directors, the Chapter Director provides leadership and shared accountability for all functions underpinning a chapter of Shelter Movers.
Responsibilities
Management & Leadership
- Providing leadership and managing the efforts of staff to ensure the achievement of annual targets and objectives
- Ensuring direct reports and their teams adhere to national standards and procedures within all functions
- Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities to staff
- Ensure the management of volunteers and staff is conducted in accordance with policies, procedures and other provincial and national regulations and standards
- Managing the chapter's finances, operating within approved budgets; ensuring maximum resource utilization
- Budget creation and analysis
- Serving as final back stop when handling client concerns and volunteer applicant eligibility
- Oversee the reporting responsibilities of their management team including monthly work plans and KPI data sheets
- Evaluate Chapter level data to assess overall health of the Chapter and proactively work locally and Nationally to increase performance as needed.
- Overseeing and reporting on the chapter's compliance with national standards, procedures, and results for all functions
Local Strategic Advancement
- Develop local strategic roadmaps in line with National strategic objectives
- Foster strategic relationships with current and potential in kind partners and business supporters in order to build Chapter capacity and sustainability
- Serve as the primary spokesperson for the chapter in all local publicfacing matters
- Research local opportunities to help foster chapter growth in line with SM's priorities and parameters
- Foster and establish relationships with key partners such as shelters and other partner agencies to increase SM's status within the GBV sector.
- Chapter Director or designate to it on at least one sector related community table, network, committee or similar
- Develop and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with the leaders (ED, CEO) of local partner agencies
Fund Development
- In collaboration with with the assigned National Fund Development team:_
- Act as the relationship manager for local donors and engage in cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities
- Attend events in order to network and build relationships
- Act as project manager for local grant requirements
Marketing and Communication
- In Collaboration with the National Marketing and
Communication Team:

- Effectively speak to local media and at local events on SM's behalf
- Responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with relevant local journalists
- Monitor local media coverage of GBV issues in order to recommend when SM should make statements and/or be involved in local social media discourse
Human Resources
- In collaboration with the the National Human Resources team:_
- Taking primary lead on local recruitment efforts
- Responsible for executing on progressive discipline measures for their staff up until the point of termination
- Other duties as assigned by the Chief Operating Officer
Skills and Qualifications
- Demonstrated success in a senior organizational leadership role, preferably in the nonprofit sector
- Strong ability to manage people and adapt to varied management needs
- Strong analytical, problemsolving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects under tight timelines
- A collaborative and compassionate leadership style to build trust and inspire others to achieve common goals
- Advanced understanding and interest in gender based violence, including antiracist, antioppressive frameworks and intersectionality of challenges faced by survivors of abuse in the local community
- Strong ability to make tough, datadriven decisions
- Experience managing large teams (over 20 staff)
- Experience managing volunteers an asset
