Compensation Range

Job Description Summary

The Academic Program Coordinator is a role within the School of Community and Regional Planning (SCARP). The position is integral to the implementation of the School's strategic priorities and objectives.

The incumbent is responsible for managing a wide range of academic program related activities and services focusing on curriculum administration, student services and oversight of policy and program development in relation to teaching and learning, accreditation and curricula.

In pursuit of these goals, the position provides academic and non-academic advice and guidance by developing, implementing and coordinating programs.

The incumbent liaises with Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (G+PS), Faculty of Applied Science (APSC), other University units and institutions outside of the University.

The program service delivery will require some early mornings, evenings and/or weekends.

Organizational Status

This position reports directly to the Administration Manager. Works independently and receives direction from the Administration Manager; may supervise staff, student employees and volunteers.

Work Performed

Academic Program Administration & Coordination (60%)
- administer and coordinate the implementation and execution of academic programs by developing policies and evaluating ways to improve delivery_
- support and administer curriculum development, academic plans and programs;
- develops templates to improve and enhance programs and services, including conducting program evaluations and assessments;
- design and develop surveys, evaluates the data for utility related to program activities and performs statistical analysis, including literature searches, evaluates data for utility and generates reports;
- represents the School on committees and/or forums and is staff representative on the School's Teaching & Learning Committee;
- manage and coordinate programs and services by producing toolkits and analytical reports to inform decision-making;
- develop and implement processes to increase student success by maintaining training libraries and other resources to support programs;
- develop and implement a comprehensive orientation program for new students, including program orientation manuals for students in collaboration with faculty;
- manage program databases, documents and files in compliance with UBC policy;
- manage and support student group relations, including communication and conflict resolution between team or chapter leadership in the School;
- coordinates the planning and delivery of undergraduate programs (example: Urban Studies, Vancouver Summer Program);
- supports Planning Accreditation Board (USA) and Planning Standards Board (CAN) accreditation processes for School;
- liaises with UBC units (G+PS, APSC and Enrolment-Student Services) to keep current on university-wide priorities and initiatives;

Student Services and Development (40%)
- build, grow, maintain and assess programs, service models and approaches to support student success from orientation through to graduation_
- manage and implement student development programs, workshops and services to facilitate students' curricular and co-curricular experiences to enhance classroom learning and career opportunities;
- coordinates with colleagues to ensure information related to student development are accurate and current on all platforms.
