Two Support Staff Full-time Replacement Positions

(First consideration for Support Staff and Academic positions will be given to internal applicants in accordance with the respective Collective Agreements)

The Simulation Specialists support all simulation activities within the School of Health and Life Sciences (SHLS).

Specifically, the incumbents support simulation delivery, including case development, the creation of immersive and case-based environments, and the development of new strategies to enhance the simulation.

The Simulation Specialists act as the point of contact for any troubleshooting-related issues for all Health science-related technology and will support students in the acquisition of clinical reasoning and skills.

Please note, there are two vacancies for this role.

One vacancy is a "less than 12-month position." This incumbent will regularly work 10 months of the year with an expected annual layoff of two-months (June - July).


Responsibilities:


  • Coordinates and performs the setup of specialized environments required for each simulation case, including using clinical and simulation expertise to select the most appropriate mannequins, supplies, furnishings, technologies, and other equipment
  • Identifies equipment and prop needs based on program learning objectives
  • Creates and incorporates patient charts, props, visual aids, and moulage to enhance the realism of the simulation environment
  • Provides presimulation orientation to the simulation environment, medical equipment, simulators, and simulation philosophy to students as well as faculty
  • Utilizes knowledge of mannequin capabilities, as well as human physiology to provide dynamic feedback to learner intervention throughout the simulation event to meet learning objectives
  • Interacts with learners as a patient or client during scenarios, and ensures their own responses are appropriate considering patient state, learner interaction, and learner clinical intervention
  • Instills and reinforces Conestoga's simulation philosophy with students, faculty, staff, and guests to ensure that simulations are guided by learning objectives and provides simulation events that are appropriate to the skill set and knowledge as determined by the curriculum
  • Utilizes expertise of the principles of simulation to create immersive environments by incorporating visual, auditory, tactile, proprioceptive, and olfactory adjuncts
  • Develops and maintains simulation clinical charting documentation to support realism in learning based on casespecific clinical content
  • Participates in program promotional activities and tours related to prospective students and external partners
  • Supports simulation scheduling within health science programs to alleviate conflicts due to space, equipment shortage, or human resource shortage
  • Initiates repairs for equipment, supplies, and all audio/visual systems in the SHLS

Qualifications:


  • Regulated (Registered) health care professional with a threeyear Diploma/Degree in health care
  • Minimum three years of experience as a registered health care professional in an acute/postacute health care setting
  • Certified Simulations obtained by Simulation Canada is considered an asset
  • Experience with Laerdal, METI, and Gaumard mannequins as well as B-Line and Simulation IQ Audio Visual (A/V) systems is considered an asset
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in order to work with faculty, staff, students, stakeholders, vendors and outside community partners
  • A high level of organizational skills
  • Assertive, selfmotivated, and creative abilities to fully realize the potential of the Cross Centre for Simulation Learning and its assets
  • Ability to work independently as well as a member of a team
  • Uses critical thinking skills for decisionmaking and problem solving
  • Access to reliable transportation and ability to travel to multiple locations
