Dufferin Aggregates / Dufferin Concrete - Supervisor, Laboratories & Quality Control

Reporting to the General Manager, the Supervisor Laboratories & QC ensures materials testing conformance and efficient laboratories operations while promoting an environment of collaboration, growth and development for our lines of businesses and pioneering product technology advances and automation that will benefit not only our organization but our customers as well.


Position Responsibilities (key duties, scope of position, goals, expectations, and skills requirements)

  • Compliance with the CRH OH&S, Quality, Integrity and Code of Business Conduct policies and procedures.
  • Implements effective policies, procedures and systems for the laboratory teams and monitors the quality and performance of technicians work efficiency during daytoday operations.
  • Extensive knowledge of lab operations dealing with concrete and aggregate materials testing.
  • Maintains high rating for our certified CCIL labs performance (type "S" concrete certified lab and type "D" aggregate certified lab) during audits and MTO correlation and proficiency testing programs.
  • Understands business processes and develops efficient lab procedures.
  • Ability to prepare and submit technical reports to customers as needed.
  • Liaise with both internal and external customers to ensure quality products and services and to understand how the overall lab performance impacts field operations.
  • Assists in selecting and making recommendations on appropriate tools for the Quality Control function and to enhance lab operations.
  • Effectively leads a team of motivated employees and creates a highperformance environment through "engaged" employees.
  • Finds synergies between the concrete and aggregate labs and through communication and collaboration with field QC teams.
  • Develops efficiency parameters in collaboration with QC field staff.
  • Fosters a sense of collaboration and works effectively across the organization to achieve business goals and objectives.
  • Keeps up with most current applicable standards and test methods and communicates any changes effectively.
  • Provides technical training to laboratory, onsite/field QC personnel, internal and external customers as needed.
  • Effectively examine events, issues and problems to generate optimal solutions in a timely manner.
  • Defines and implements measures and reporting tools to further improve material and product uniformity.
  • Analyses results and initiates appropriate action to achieve/exceed business objectives and targets.
  • Performs other activities related to the function, or department, as assigned.
  • Handling of all administrative tasks related to staff members.

Educational Requirements:


  • University or College degree in an appropriate discipline is a must.
  • 5+ years of experience in a concrete and/or aggregate materials laboratory environment.
  • C.E.T designation considered but P.Eng. certified or working towards P.Eng. certification preferred.

Working Conditions:


  • Field/Lab/Office environment.
  • Travel to company sites and customer job sites.
  • Physical demands.

Position Dimensions:

  • Computer knowledge and proficiency with MS Office, SAP, MPAQ and StonemontQC Management software.
  • Team oriented, willing to help out in all areas of the department.

  • Must have valid G drivers license.
