Are you passionate about arts and culture? Are you curious, open-minded and eager to share your discoveries? Want to shed light on today's artistic and social issues by producing original content across all our platforms?

Radio-Canada British Columbia is looking for a Cross-Platform Reporter/Editor to cover arts, cultural and societal topics. Based in Vancouver, you'll be joining a high-performing, innovative team that's driven to excel.

In this role, you'll report on cultural news and societal issues throughout the province. This includes everything from emerging artistic scenes to major institutions, one-off events to ongoing debates, and societal trends to community initiatives.

You'll also travel occasionally to cover specific cultural or community events across British Columbia.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pitch, research and produce compelling reports, articles, reviews and profiles focused on arts, cultural and community issues.
  • Maintain a network of contacts.
  • Attend story meetings, pitch ideas and suggest follow-up stories in response to breaking news on your beat.
  • Conduct interviews with creators, thought leaders and changemakers in the arts and social sectors.
  • Continuously monitor local, national and international cultural and social issues to identify new story opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the editorial team to develop innovative content formats (short videos, photo essays, standalone visuals, new digital storytelling forms, etc.).
  • Actively participate in the content distribution strategy for our digital platforms and social media accounts.
  • File stories for all platforms.

Please note:

  • The work schedule may include weekends, early mornings or late evenings, especially when you cover cultural events.

What you bring?

  • University degree or equivalent.
  • Three years of directly related experience that includes proven ability in the field and knowledge of the media and creative industries.
  • Proven track record pitching and chasing stories.
  • Knowledge of the British Columbia arts scene and its key players an asset.
  • Solid command of spoken and written French (language of work).
  • Excellent understanding of spoken and written English, and ease speaking the language.
  • Knowledge and understanding of CBC/Radio-Canada Journalistic Standards and Practices.
  • Critical mind.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills.
  • A talent for translating complex realities into clear, contextualized and compelling narratives.
  • Proven ability to work independently in a faced-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Good general knowledge and a keen curiosity about artistic, social and contemporary issues.
  • Solid knowledge of British Columbia, Canadian and international news.
  • Familiarity with and passion for issues affecting French-speaking minority communities, particularly in British Columbia.
  • Availability to travel and work flexible hours, including on weekends.
  • Valid Canadian driver's licence.
  • Ability to pick up new technology quickly.
  • Proficiency in radio and digital platforms an asset.
  • Knowledge of newsroom production applications (iNews, Dalet, Scoop and Avid) an asset.
