Primary Purpose:

The Equine Field Service (EFS) Clinical Associate provides equine ambulatory and reproduction service to clients of the Veterinary Medical Centre.

This position also participates in the clinical instruction, supervision and mentorship of students enrolled in the undergraduate Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Program.


Nature of Work:

Reporting to the Department Head, Large Animal Clinical Sciences, the EFS Clinical Associate works as a member of the Field Service Section providing clinical service within the VMC.

The EFS Clinical Associate must have a good understanding of VMC and WCVM policies and procedures to appropriately meet the needs of clients and students.

The work of this position is complex and demanding and must deal with emerging and unpredictable events involving large animals.

This position is required to provide in field and in house clinical service, so travel is required.


Typical Duties or Accountabilities:


Duties will include:

  • Provision of clinical service, including oncall and afterhours, to clients of the equine ambulatory practice and equine reproductive service at the VMC in equine practice and summer equine clinical rotations.
  • Participation in the supervision and mentorship of equine field service residents.
  • Ensuring the maintenance and growth of the caseload of Equine Ambulatory and Reproductive Services at the VMC.
  • Assistance in providing additional teaching duties as assigned.

Skills:

Strong foundation in the practice of clinical veterinary medicine; Strong clinical skills to serve as a positive role model and supervisor for students; Ability to utilize and assimilate available clinical information to make decisions regarding patient care; Demonstrated initiative, integrity, collegiality and professionalism; Effective oral and written communication skills; Effective time management, problem solving, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Must willing and be able to travel in the assigned region.

Shift:
(Mon-Fri, 8:00-4:30): Hours of work are based on the normal operating hours of the university and are flexible based on the priorities of the unit. In addition, you will share after-hours emergency duties as required. Hours of work are stated in the
ASPA collective bargaining agreement and will be determined in consultation with your supervisor. Please refer to the provisions of Article 9.3.1 regarding the development of work plans and determination of hours of work.


Full Time Equivalent (FTE): 1.0


Salary:
The salary range, based on 1.0 FTE, is $ per hour. The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
