Description:

The Department of Medical Imaging at St.

Michael's Hospital (SMH) in Toronto and the University of Toronto are currently recruiting a full-time, dual trained physician in both nuclear medicine and diagnostic radiology with expertise in cardiac PET/CT and cardiothoracic radiology to lead the SMH Molecular Imaging Division.

The anticipated start date is July 1, 2024, or sooner.

The Department of Medical Imaging at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto is establishing the Cardiac PET/CT Centre of Unity Health Toronto.

Unity Health Toronto is hospital network comprised of three key sites:
Providence Healthcare, St. Joseph's Health Centre and St.

Michael's Hospital (SMH), with more than 10,000 staff and physicians and an annual budget of more than $1 billion and 1,100 inpatient beds.

We are a collegial group that seeks clinically excellent nuclear medicine physicians and radiologists to support our mission of excellent patient care delivered in a positive and constructive work environment.

We offer excellent compensation and opportunities for professional and career growth.

The SMH site is a busy, 600-bed tertiary care and Level 1 Adult Trauma Centre and one of four principal teaching hospitals of the University of Toronto.

Clinical instruction of undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate Medical Imaging trainees occurs on a daily basis.

We have a strong culture and history of close collaborative working and teaching relationships with other Departments across the hospital network.

Compensation will be in accordance with the uniform average salary of a Radiologist (in the range of $300,000 - $500,000) in the Province of Ontario.

A brand new state-of-the-art PET/CT Suite is under construction, with the GE Discovery MI Gen2 PET-CT scanner anticipated to be operational in the department in the spring of 2024.

Besides this flagship new PET/CT scanner, our Molecular Imaging Division also features CZT camera for cardiac imaging, 2 SPECT/CT cameras, 2 BMD scanners and thyroid probe.

The Department of Medical Imaging, more broadly, also features 3 multi-detector CT scanners (1 dual-energy volume CT scanner), 4 MRI scanners (two 1.5T and two 3.0 T), and 9 ultrasound units.

A net new fifth MRI scanner (3.0T) is being procured and will be installed in 2024 physically adjacent to the new PET Centre, both of which will be housed in a brand new wing of SMH which physically expands the footprint of the Department on the same floor.

The recent addition of a portable ultra-low field mT) head MRI scanner is allowing us to evaluate, innovate and define the early clinical implementation of this technology in Canada. A brand new replacement cardiac-specialized CT scanner is being procured and will also be installed in 2024.

The Molecular Imaging Division provides a general nuclear medicine service which includes a high volume of nuclear cardiology studies. University of Toronto trainees in nuclear medicine, radiology and cardiology programs all rotate through SMH.

The Cardiothoracic Imaging Division of the Department of Medical Imaging encompasses busy cardiac MRI, structural heart CT, and chest CT services supporting strong collaborative programs with cardiology, respirology (pulmonology), internal medicine, thoracic surgery and cardiac surgery.

Each year, there are up to 3 full-time Cardiothoracic Imaging clinical fellows at SMH.

In addition to our dedicated MRI Research Centre, and the research capabilities and opportunities of our new PET/CT scanner in the Cardiac PET/CT Centre the SMH Department of Medical Imaging is home to internationally recognized research work in Medical Imaging artificial intelligence through a Research Chair in Medical Imaging Artificial Intelligence.

SMH also houses the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute and the Keenan Research Centre which provide world-class research support and opportunities for radiologists to engage in collaborative translational research.

In 2023, Unity Health Toronto ranked second in Canada in research intensity among research hospitals.
