JOB INFORMATION:


  • We are currently seeking temporary Carhouse Operators in the Streetcar Maintenance Department. This position is temporary until approximately December This position involves working a 40 hour work week, with various shifts and off days; including weekends and Statutory Holidays. You may be required to work out of all TTC Streetcar Carhouses as per business needs.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:


  • Perform routine rail vehicle and streetcar operations (revenue and nonrevenue) within the assigned carhouse and yard areas and onservice lines for changeoffs; from the yard to platform or other pickup and delivery areas (e.g. during buildup or reduction of service; for parking, repair, inspection or cleaning purposes)
  • Perform preservice vehicle check procedures, in accordance with established methods and operating procedures and report defects/issues to the Foreperson
  • Perform interior and exterior cleaning duties on the vehicles including washing, dusting, sweeping, mopping, disinfecting unsanitary vehicles, removing and replacing seats, etc.
  • Assist in the coupling and uncoupling of disabled vehicles
  • Perform vehicle changeoffs as required and ensuring the changeoff vehicle is clean
  • Returning defective vehicle to the carhouse and signingin of the vehicle
  • Promotes a respectful work and service environment that supports diversity, inclusion, and is free from harassment and discrimination. Provides leadership in the development and implementation of inclusive and accessible policies, programs and/or services for employees and customers in accordance with TTC's commitments and obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC) and Related Orders, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and TTC's policies.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:


  • Requires training normally obtained through the completion of Grade 10 education
  • Previous experience driving large vehicles or heavy equipment that require an upgraded license (A, B, C, D, E, Z) is an asset
  • Must be familiar with the preparation of vehicles for service. This would normally be acquired through experience in an environment where vehicles are cleaned, prepared and aligned for service
  • Ability to comprehend verbal and written instructions as demonstrated by an ability to understand and follow published operating/safety rules and regulations
  • Possession of a valid, nonprobationary, Class "G" or better Province of Ontario Driver's Licence
  • Attend and successfully complete TTC training programs for Streetcar Rule Book certification and rail vehicle certification in order to qualify to operate any type of rail vehicle at the assigned work location (includes passing any written or practical tests involved.)
