Job summary
In accordance with the Mission Vision and Values provincial health services authority patient safety is a priority and responsibility shared by everyone at PHSA. The Health Care Worker works under the functional direction of a Registered Nurse or other designate to assist in delivery of patient care for an assigned inpatient area.
Responsibilities
- Maintains clean safe environment; assists with meals oral hygiene performs nursing care duties as applicable observes monitors patients progress reports significant observations responds to call bells alarms transports patients uses mechanical aides lifts transfers patients as required maintains confidentiality respect for patients rights privacy establishes therapeutic relationships provides support following established care plans greets assists with storage personal belongings creates safe comfortable environment fosters culture patient staff safety communicates reports records any behaviors concerns including verbal physical aggression violence nurse ensures dietary needs met serves meals assists feeding requires ensures know Kardex risk triggers signature behaviors nursing care plans all assigned maintain unit milieu communicates reports records any behaviors concerns including verbal physical aggression violence nurse responds emergent situations calls appropriate code assists care team accordingly unit program guidelines observes monitors patient progress behavioral changes reports significant observations discomfort pain condition complaints accidents feedback from into planning progress registered nurse designate utilizes mechanical aides specialty beds lifts slide boards mobilizes wheelchairs stretchers transport patients provides assistance positioning lifting transferring utilizing established techniques accompanies provide assistance as required maintains supplies utility areas supply cupboards washrooms bedside tables storage areas checks supply sheets identify items quantities notifies Unit Clerk depleting stock replenishes accordingly tidies supply cupboards shelves areas cleans items fridge removes extra supplies according procedures obtains strong sheets seclusion rooms empties cleans items fridges removes extra supplies accoring established procedures assists clothing needs stores as required participates discussions training sessions attends meetings provide receive information input regarding improvements patience operation area attends safety huddles community meetings directs transports drugs specimen specified areas moving according schedules performs related clerical duties answering telephones providing general filing material as directed sets measurable goals objectives collaboration supervisor team develops executes personal development plans fosters culture patience staff safety completing routine security tasks searching escorting programs review boards throughout facility gym rehab physiotherapy Fir Hall OT supervised grounds policy task specific practices units program grounds Forensic Psychiatric Hospital site provides emotional psychological nursing food water drinks hygiene employing active listening skills empathy member caring seclusion employs active listening skills empathy member caring seclusion.
