OVERVIEW
You are a supervisor or engineer with experience in a fast-paced, complex manufacturing operation.

You have a proven track record and a strong process aptitude, excellent analytical thinking and problem solving skills and a drive for continuous improvement.

You enjoy a challenge and have the energy and vision to recognize and implement improvement opportunities both independently and as part of a team with members of all levels of an organization.


The Process Supervisor is a continental shift position responsible for leading the safe and efficient production operations of the largest sugar refinery in Canada. This position is also responsible for ensuring safety, sanitation and GMP practices within the SQF framework.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Accountable for the health and safety of shift employees in the process department. Responsible to ensure that all operations are safe and that employees work in compliance with established work practices and procedures.
  • Directs site operations and coordinates with on and offsite emergency response teams during emergencies.
  • Leads the work of the process shift teams in a manner that supports exceeding daily standard production rates, product quality, customer service and utility efficiencies.
  • Diagnose problems in the operation using the WonderWare control system, laboratory database and independent observations. Able to then make the required decisions to resolve them to support the plant goals.
  • Identifies and implements improvements in the processes followed by the process operating team to improve their performance.
  • Leads continuous improvement problem solving sessions to action improvement opportunities through root cause analysis. Is a trained facilitator of the RCA process and participates in A3 and DMAIC problem solving processes.
  • Oversees operator training on safety, quality, operations and other areas as required.
  • Supervises the packaging and warehouse operations when required to cover for the Packaging Supervisor as needed

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Manage multiple priorities with overlapping tasks and work independently with mínimal supervision.
  • Ability to lead diverse teams to challenge the status quo to achieve operational improvements
  • Demonstrated ability to identify problems, develop and implement solutions.
  • Strong organization skills, attention to detail and follow through to resolve any outstanding issues.
  • Proficient skills specifically in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook are required.
  • Fundamental understanding of food standards, safety and sanitary regulations and good manufacturing practices.

RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER DEPARTMENTS:


  • Packaging: Work together to ensure that packaging sugar supply needs are met.
  • Maintenance: Leads the shift maintenance team to troubleshoot and resolve shift maintenance problems. Assists in the planning and release of larger maintenance items with the Maintenance Manager.
  • Quality: all levels for shift process quality analysis, process investigations and customer product testing.
  • Logistics: all levels to manage the on time loading of bulk and liquid trucks.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


  • College or University graduate with technical or engineering focus preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years Supervisory experience leading teams in an Industrial setting or demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of structured problem solving (CI), Lean experience an asset.
  • Experience with sugar refining or a continuous production process preferred.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook MS Office skills required. Knowledge of SAP is an asset.
