Overview:

The Sustainability and Environment Coordinator assists the Manager of Sustainability &Environment, MB/SK/SAB, to optimize environmental management practices throughout the MB/SK market area, and supports all product line operational efforts to identify risks, comply with environmental legal and Lafarge requirements> This position will work to operationalize and track sustainability commitments in the market area and support data collection and reporting, while being an advocate for Lafarge' sustainability strategy and improved sustainability performance.

This position requires working with the Environment Manager to develop, maintain, and implement the Environment Management System (EMS) and all related elements.


Responsibilities:


  • Identify opportunities and develop, assemble, and update environmental elements required for MB/SK operations to meet company EMS requirements.
  • Provide support, implementation, management, and guidance for site operations regarding compliance with provincial and federal regulations, municipal bylaws, corporate environmental requirements, and industry standards.
  • Assist with environmental and sustainability training programs for MB/SK Lafarge personnel, and ensure adequate records are maintained.
  • Assist with environmental Key Performance Indicator (KPI) assessments of MB/SK operations.
  • Manage MB/SK operations' monitoring and sampling programs (air, water, and soil), and ensure programs are tracked and reported as necessary.
  • Perform environmental audits and inspections according to company standards, and work with operations to address issues.
  • Perform erosion and sediment control monitoring and general environmental monitoring for project work; create and revise construction environmental management plans as required.
  • Advise Lafarge project sites of measures that can be implemented to decrease erosion potential on project sites
  • Keep current with all federal, provincial, and local environmental legal requirements, and advise the Environment Manager and operations personnel of key changes.
  • Assist in the completion and submission of required regulatory reports for MB/SK operations.
  • Assist with local due diligence projects for acquisitions, divestments, or information requests / evaluations as needed.
  • Assist operations in responding to environmental incidents, and resolving environmental issues.
  • Assist with community relations and public affairs programs and be an ambassador for Lafarge's sustainability programs.
  • Assist with the implementation and support of Regional and Global Lafarge Environmental Sustainability initiatives.
  • Serve as a role model in areas of leadership, teamwork, customer focus, continuous improvement, safety, and environmental stewardship to ensure alignment with the company's vision and critical success factors.
  • Provide project management as needed for daytoday activities, and special projects.
  • Compile area environment data, present summaries, and submit reports to the Environment Manager and operations personnel when requested.

Qualifications:

Education and work experience:


  • Minimum technical diploma, or University degree in Environmental Studies, Earth Sciences, Biology, or Civil Engineering or related discipline.
  • Previous related environmental experience considered an asset
  • Experience working with operations through a corporate function
  • Working knowledge of federal, provincial, and municipal environmental laws
  • Experience working with stakeholders and dealing with public affairs matters considered an asset
