Our food security assistant supports our food drive and fundraising activities to build our capacity to provide emergency food support to students.

While the food security assistant receives direction and mentorship from the member services coordinator on a day-to-day basis and can expect to interact and engage with our student leadership, they ultimately share a reporting relationship with the executive director.


Duties
In particular, the food security assistant performs the following job duties:

Food Security (60%)

  • Evaluates and provides advice on how the Capilano Students' Union can improve our food security services to ensure optimal for students in financial need.
  • Develops partnerships with university departments and partner and community organizations to expand resources available to the CSU's food bank program.
  • Develops strategies and materials to raise awareness about student food insecurity and the purpose of emergency food supports such as food banks.
  • Organizes community food drive activities to build up our supply of funds and nonperishable goods to support the Community Cupboard program, the CSU's food bank to provide emergency food support to students.
  • Develops food security strategies and program improvements to maximize the impact of our food security resources, including strategies to ensure that resources are making it into the hands of students who need them most.

Fundraising (30%)

  • Working closely with the event coordinator, supports all aspects of the Summer food security fundraiser to generate financial support for the CSU's food bank, including venue logistics, invitations, and the program.

Other Duties (10%)

  • Works safely, in accordance with our health and safety program.
  • Protects the personal information of coworkers, students, and the public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by resource staff or the executive director.

Qualifications

  • Six months or more experience on food security work.
  • Knowledgeable about postsecondary campus life.
  • Personable, professional, and wellorganized.
  • Ability to work effectively independently, or as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
