Labour Engagement Officer
Full time position based in our Sudbury Office


About the role:


The Labour Engagement Officer at United Way Centraide North East Ontario champions and inspires union members and citizens broadly to work together to build a better Northeast Ontario for everyone who lives here.

Supporting all aspects of the relationship between United Way and organized labour, the Labour Engagement

Officer, with guidance from United Way Centraide North East Ontario and the Canadian Labour Congress, will;

  • Foster strong partnerships between the Sudbury District Labour Council, North Bay District Labour


Council, and Kapuskasing District Labour Council, Canadian Labour Congress affiliated unions, organized Labour, and United Way Centraide North East Ontario.


  • Support labour involvement in United Way Centraide North East Ontario's Board of Directors,
Labour Executive, Always United Group, Campaign Cabinet and other volunteer roles leadingUnited Way's work.

  • Engage with unions, unionized workplaces and union locals, volunteers, and stakeholders, to develop and support engagement and fundraising initiatives that contribute to strengthening cultures and community relationships.
  • Identify innovative opportunities for United Way and Labour, through a shared strategy with the


Sudbury District Labour Council, North Bay District Labour Council, and Kapuskasing DistrictLabour Council, to collaborate on programs and partnerships that benefit our communities.


  • Foster and build strategic partnerships to ensure we make a meaningful difference in our communities.
  • Promote 211 and other supports to unionized workplaces.
  • Develop, coordinate, and facilitate Labour Community Advocate education and training curricula, designed to strengthen community support and advocacy for union workers and communities in
Northeast Ontario.


Qualifications:

You are a self-driven, goal-oriented individual who is passionate about working collectively to make a difference in people's lives. You will have a solid understanding the Labour movement and an awareness and understanding of community issues. A strongly collaborative team player, you are able to recognize strategic opportunities and can build and sustain strong relationships.

You will also possess the following attributes:

  • A minimum of a Grade 12 or equivalent; post-secondary education in Labour Studies or additional relevant training and education will be considered assets.
  • Three or more years involvement with a union as an active member and be a current member in good standing with a union.
  • Demonstrated commitment to a better community through volunteering or other activities.
  • Demonstrated project/program management skills, with excellent organizational and
- communication skills, including the ability to lead meetings and make presentations to large groups.

  • Experience with public speaking, with demonstrated competencies in developing, organizing, and facilitating labour and social issues related curriculum an asset.
  • Proficient in online meeting platforms (Zoom, Teams, etc.) for hosting meetings, outreach, and facilitation methods.
  • Bilingualism (French/English) will be considered an asset.
  • Access to a reliable vehicle and a clean drivers abstract.
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule with some evenings and weekends is required.
  • This fulltime position is based in our Sudbury office.

What UWCNEO offers:

Starting Wage of $53,000 to $55,000, depending on experience.
Full benefit package.
Participation in DB Pension Plan.


The Labour Engagement Officer will work 35 hours a week with the hours being flexible to meet the needs of the program.

A typical work week is from Monday to Friday 8:30 to 4:30. Some travel may be required.
