JOB INFORMATION
We are currently seeking Apprentice Cable & Telephone Technicians. This is a 40 hour work week involving rotating shifts with various off days.


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Must successfully complete a training program involving progressively more complex electronic work involving the installation, maintenance, testing, and repair work carried out on the Commission's communications cable infrastructure systems including LAN, WAN, computer, fibre optic backbone and multipair cable systems. Cable systems including radiating and nonradiating and fibre optic cables for the subway radio system. fibre and copper cable for supervisory control and data acquisition systems, field remote terminal units, signal remote control systems, signal SRT, surface vehicle control centres, fibre and copper cable for signal field code units
  • The work also involves the determination of cable layout based on building floor plans, plus the repair of PAX telephone, multipair copper, fibre optic and multiplex cables and associated equipment located at track level, and similar voice, Jungle MUX fibre systems, industrial networks and communication devices
  • Responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers and/or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (within the area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a serviceprovider and an employer.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • Training normally obtained through completion of a community college diploma in the field of electrical/electronics, or its equivalent and be able to pass the Cable Technician entrance test
  • Must possess a valid, nonprobationary class G driver's license
  • Attend and successfully complete the Training & Development department's programs for the operation of a Commission vehicle; CPR, WHMIS, TTC and Toronto Hydro confined space entry, planned power cuts, limits of approach, lifting devices, scaffold, bucket truck, reel wagon and Subway/SRT Rule Book training
  • The above training and standard TTC tests will normally be carried out during the Apprenticeship period
  • Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees


The TTC's policy prohibits relatives of current TTC employees from being hired, assigned, transferred or promoted into positions, where there is a conflict of interest due to a relationship.
