Building Attendant - Labourer III

SUMMARY OF POSITION:


Reporting to the Manager of Protective Services, the Building Attendant (Labourer III) is responsible for ensuring the safe and effective cleaning of Westlock County and its premises.

The incumbent is required to perform tasks such as vacuuming, dusting, and disinfecting.

The Building Attendant is responsible for ensuring that their required tasks are completed thoroughly, on time, and with mínimal supervision.


The incumbent works independently on a variety of tasks and must have a broad working knowledge in areas such as safe work practices and general health and safety policies.

Various Provincial, Federal, and Municipal legislation, regulations and policies must be adhered to.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Manager of Protective Services, the duties, and responsibilities of the Building Attendant (Labourer III) include, but are not limited to, the following:

Janitorial/Custodial

  • Clean premises ensuring procedures are followed for the proper use, care, and handling of cleaning and disinfectant products
  • Clean, stock and supply designated facility areas including dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, and restroom cleaning
  • Remove trash and recycling
  • Work with and understand several cleaning products and chemicals ensuring the correct products are being used for the correct job and storing cleaning products and supplies in a safe and orderly manner
  • Report and monitor repairs and replacements for any equipment or supplies as needed, when encountered on the job performing the duties
  • Maintain an adequate stock of materials and supplies
  • Ensure compliance with Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS) and any other required legislation regarding chemical products
  • Complete logbooks as necessary on material data sheets
  • Complete required training, including required health and safety training
  • Ensure that Westlock County's Health and Safety Policies as well as Occupational Health and Safety Standards are followed
  • Promote a safe work environment ensuring compliance with all government regulations
  • Participation on the County's Joint Health and Safety Committee as required
  • This position may be called to perform duties as required by the Director of Emergency Management during a State of Local Emergency

Administration

  • Documentation and paperwork with regards to stock of materials and supplies and material data sheets

Other Duties

  • Ensure that Westlock County's Health and Safety Program as well as Occupational Health and Safety's standards are followed
  • Promotes a safe work environment, ensuring compliance with all government regulations, and Health & Safety policies and practices
  • Performs other related duties as required by the Manager of Protective Services and the Manager of Health and Safety
  • Participation on the County's Joint Health and Safety Committee as required
  • This position may be called to perform duties as required by the Director of Emergency Management during a State of Local Emergency
  • Performs other related duties as required by the CAO, Director, Manager, or Supervisor

Skills and Attributes Overview:


  • High School Diploma
  • 1 (one) year of previous custodial/janitorial knowledge and experience is an asset
  • Health and Safety and safe work practices including knowledge of WHMIS, and hazardous materials and the hazards associated with the trade including exposure to common chemical cleaning products
  • First Aid is an asset
  • Knowledge of cleaning tools and equipment to perform tasks, cleaning products, and supplies, and techniques for cleaningAbility to work independently
  • Criminal Records Check
  • Valid Class 5 drivers' license with an acceptable drivers' abstract

Working Conditions

  • This is a parttime position with hours of work being in the evenings, and include weekend work, outside of normal operating hours. The incumbent works alone
  • Physical demands exerting varying levels of physical effort. This includes moderate lifting up to 50 lbs., walking, standing, bending, crouching kneeling, twisting, climbing, pushing, pulling, reaching, and stretching. The duties and tasks include pushing a vacuum cleaner for extended periods of time
  • Repetitive tasks
  • Frequent exposure to chemicals which may be hazardous
  • Possible exposure to biohazards or hazardous materials

HOURS OF WORK:
Evenings, Monday-Friday, 4 hour shifts. Additional hours may be requested occasionally.


WAGES:
This is a Union position therefore wages are as per Appendix I of the current Collective Agreement. Wages will be paid based on hours worked in the respective position.
