Underwriting Budgets- Prepares the annual financial projections.- Develops and maintains relationships with key internal stakeholders in the Finance, Claims, Systems, Regions, and Product Management divisions.- Maintains and modifies the underwriting budget model to adequately incorporate adjustments and additions from internal stakeholders.- Performs statistical analysis and actuarial modeling of historical claims and premiums.- Uploads the projections to the financial software.- Performs quarterly analyses on variances from budget expectations, reporting insights to key internal stakeholders.


Financial Condition Testing- Review or generate regulatory capital forecast.- Monitoring capital needs, which includes assessing any proposed changes from OSFI, interpreting new guidelines, and ensuring periodic regulatory capital returns are completed efficiently.- Prepares the annual Financial Condition Testing (FCT) report and makes appropriate recommendations to ensure the accuracy of the reports.- Performs the statistical analysis, modeling, and development of plausible adverse scenarios that threaten the company's solvency.- Researches annual return changes and ensures adjustments are accurately accounted for in the FCT models.- Prepares a presentation to adequately communicate the results of the FCT to key stakeholders.


Actuarial Valuation Support- Provides support for quarterly actuarial valuations including claim, premium and actuarial liabilities.- Researches and applies appropriate actuarial reserving methodologies.- Assesses and interprets the results of data analysis and develops appropriate solutions and recommendations. Provides technical and analytical support to all clients in the corporation requiring actuarial skills, advice, and assistance.

Corporate Management- Enables the success of programs and policies that are in alignment with corporate, strategic, and divisional strategies.- Manages risk in area of authority.- Ensures that the Health, Safety and Emergency Management Policy is applied in area of responsibility.


Education and Experience- A four-year degree from an accredited post-secondary education institution in Actuarial Science or a relevant field of study such as Business or Mathematics & Applied Science- Successful completion of at least 2 exams sponsored by the Casualty Actuarial Society or equivalent university accreditation.- Dedication to complete exams sponsored by the Casualty Actuarial Society is preferred.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Knowledge of the insurance industry and insurance products features.- Knowledge of financial analysis methods, measures, and risk management.- Knowledge of regulatory financial compliance.- Knowledge of actuarial methods, statistics and assumptions used in loss reserving and forecasting.- Knowledge of advanced actuarial concepts/methods within the core discipline.- Knowledge of loss distributions, quantitative modeling, and simulation techniques. Knowledge of general system analysis, programming, and database concepts.- Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, SAS, and Arius software.- Ability to present and communicate technical information to non-technical audiences.


The range for this position is $68,676 - $134,376 and will be commensurate with verification of education, experience, and the number of completed exams sponsored by the Casualty Actuarial Society.


Pay Range:
$68, $91,572.00
