    Summary of responsibilities

    Cornwall Community Hospital provides a full range of acute inpatient, outpatient and community mental health services to their catchment area of 100,000 people from the communities of Cornwall, the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry and to the Mohawk Community of Akwesasne.

    With 185 beds, more than 1300 employees and 110 physicians, Cornwall Hospital offers a wide range of care and services.

    These include emergency, surgical, medicine and rehabilitation services, mental health and addiction programs as well as a family birthing center.

    The Coordinator, Emergency Preparedness and Security will report to the Director, Facilities Services and is responsible for emergency preparedness and security at the hospital.

    Following best practices and working with community stakeholders, the Coordinator, Emergency Preparedness and Security will lead, develop and implement a sustainable emergency management program and framework to further the hospital's readiness to address emergencies of all types.

    The Coordinator, Emergency Preparedness and Security is also the lead for the hospital's security program, managing a team of security guards to ensure the safety of patients, visitors, and staff at the hospital.


    General accountabilities:

    • Preparing and updating of the hospital's emergency management program as a coordinated, interdisciplinary and organization-wide process that includes risk identification, risk assessment and implementation of plans to mitigate, eliminate or manage real and potential emergencies, and ensures business continuity relationships with allied agencies that respond to real emergencies and assists in recovery to normal operations.
    • Developing the hospital's emergency management program within the Incident Management System Doctrine for Ontario.
    • Developing departmental emergency plans, training and exercises, and hospital pandemic plans.
    • Enhancing the overall safety and security of patients, physicians, visitors and staff through development and management of the hospital's security program.
    Requirements of the job


    • Relevant college diploma or university degree or a combination of courses, workshops and work experience in emergency preparedness or disaster recovery planning.
    • Minimum of 2 years relevant experience in emergency preparedness or other equivalent experience. Experience in healthcare setting ideal but not necessary.
    • Demonstrated experience in contract management and performing financial analyses of alternatives.
    • Excellent presentation, communication, interpersonal, client service and relationship-building skills.
    • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
    • Functional level in both official languages (oral and written in English; oral in French – and testing completed)
