Job Purpose


Reporting to the Volunteer Program Officer, the Engagement Coordinator is responsible for hosting corporate and community groups through The Food Bank's Engagement Program.

This role will also coordinate the volunteer support for the engagement program as required.


The position will coordinate and direct corporate and community groups as they work through various tasks and activities that occur in the warehouse, such as hamper packing, food sorting (frozen, non-perishable, fresh) or repackaging product in the Food Centre.

In addition, this position will be required to provide tours to corporate or community groups within our warehouse.


The Engagement Coordinator will be an integral part of the volunteer team and will work cross-departmentally to prioritize food activities with the goal of getting good quality food to our partners in a timely manner.

Working closely with the operations and development teams, the Engagement Coordinator will also educate and engage with the community around food insecurity issues, our strategic initiatives, and the food assistance network.

Responsibilities and Duties

_ Overseeing the coordination of engagement groups for warehouse tours and other activities:


  • Scheduling and coordinating engagement groups for warehouse tours and other activities.
  • Coordinate volunteer support for engagement programming.
  • Setting up and taking down activities in the warehouse for engagement programming.
  • Cleaning up after engagement activities in the warehouse to maintain a clean and organized work area, following proper food handling and storage techniques.
  • Proposing, developing, and implementing improvements to the engagement program experience.
  • Cultivating relationships with community and corporate group leaders to assist the development team with fundraising prospects.

Providing administrative support for engagement programs:

  • Managing data related to engagement programs.

Performing other duties as required:

  • Providing backup support for the volunteer program when necessary.

Location and Hours

  • The Food Bank of Waterloo Region is located at 50 Alpine Court in Kitchener, Ontario.
  • The role is required to be onsite for the work week.
  • Hours of work are generally between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday.
  • The working hours of this role are dependent on the needs of the engagement programming at The Food Bank. This position will work a variety of shifts each week including days, evenings and weekends as needed with a guarantee of 25 hours per week. Additional hours may be available as dictated by the program's needs.
Reporting Structure and Working Relationships

  • The Engagement Coordinator reports to the Volunteer Program Officer.
  • This role is an integral part of our administration and volunteer teams.
  • A significant amount of time in this role is spent working with our volunteer program team and volunteers.
  • The role often collaborates with other teams at The Food Bank to meet objectives and commitments.

Qualifications:


EXPERIENCE AND ASSETS

  • Previous experience managing diverse groups.
  • Previous experience with volunteers.
  • Previous experience in teaching and/or providing customer support.
  • Standard First Aid certification an asset.
  • Safe Food Handling certification an asset.

EDUCATION

  • Postsecondary education preferred.

  • 80% standing or walking on concrete surfaces.

  • Sustained activities requiring far and near vision, computer screens, speaking and hearing.
  • Physical environment: indoors, warehouse space with heat/cold exposure, periodic noise (warehouse equipment and volunteer groups), dust and dirt, and fumes present (exhaust).
  • Some exposure to minor chemicals (i.e., cleaning agents).
