Introduction & Key Role Objectives


WJ Groundwater is the leading construction dewatering and groundwater specialist in the UK with operations in Canada, the Middle East, Poland, and the Philippines.

We have specialized plant and equipment that allows us to install custom dewatering and water treatment systems in various environments including from within tunnels and shafts and from the surface.


The principal function of this position is business development within the dewatering sector and management of the design, estimation, and tender processes related to dewatering works.


Key areas of responsibility

  • Lead the pursuit of work for WJ Canada in the dewatering sector, and to develop the Dewatering technical capabilities for the operation.
  • Assist in and overview the tender preparation process, including managing the tender team and review of pricing and estimation, design and dewatering system selection.
  • Liaze with WJ Philippines to develop backoffice technical support.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with current and potential clients within the dewatering and construction sector.
  • Lead subcontract negotiations and subsequent subcontract documentation reviews to ensure WJ's interests and requirements are protected wherever possible.
  • Review and critic proposals, plans and designs related to dewatering systems.
  • To liaise and work with the technical staff to ensure technical delivery of our projects is of a high standard to maintain our "technical expertise" position within the industry.
  • Managing Contracts team in design and estimation of dewatering systems.
  • To maintain a documentary record, to a highquality standard, of WJ's contractual activities.
  • To support the Dewatering Division Manager and Project Managers in the commercial and technical success of projects
  • To contribute to the development of Company strategic objectives.
  • To provide expert advice and leadership to colleagues.
  • To be responsible for own health and safety and that of your team.
  • Be responsible for own health and safety and to prepare Risk Assessments for our activities. Check and audit site staff to ensure safe working practices are being followed.

The above is not exhaustive, and you will be expected to undertake other duties which may reasonably fall within the level of responsibility and competence.

Qualifications & Experience
A motivated and hardworking individual with good written and communication skills is essential.

Minimum 8 years' experience within the construction industry managing tenders and commercial contract negotiation in a similar environment, or 5 years within WJ in a design and estimation role and has demonstrated sufficient skills and knowledge.


  • A degree (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering or hydrogeological discipline.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Hydrogeology, Engineering Geology or Civil Engineering.
  • The ability to plan and organise own workload as well as that of the team.
  • Experience and confidence in managing others.
  • Comprehensive awareness of commercial issues, ideally including a good understanding and knowledge of construction industry contracts.
  • Competent user of Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills the ability to communicate complicated and sometimes sensitive concepts is an essential requirement.

Working Conditions
**The role is predominately office based at our head office, but you will be expected to visit our clients' sites for meetings, site walkovers, site inductions, undertake project briefings within Ontario as required.
