JOB SUMMARY


The Research Coordinator will work on grant-funded Global Health centred HPV and STI research studies being conducted through the Global Control of HPV Related Diseases Research Program at the Women's Health Research Institute (WHRI).

The primary goals of these projects are to work with local communities and partners towards the elimination of cervical cancer WHO initiatives.

Project work is undertaken in LMIC countries, including Uganda and Rwanda.

The role provides a range of specific leadership responsibilities regarding project planning and oversight, developing and monitoring of budget, training and oversight of local research teams in the country, and progress report writing.

The Research Coordinator will work under the supervision of Dr. Gina Ogilvie and the Research Program Manager and work closely with the Global Health Team within the Dr. Ogilvie lab.


The incumbent will have a workspace at WHRI, which is located at the BC Women's Hospital campus and will also spend time at the research sites in Uganda and other regions.


ORGANIZATIONAL STATUS


The position is in the School of Population and Public Health (SPPH) within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia.

The School is an innovative unit that encompasses many of the health-related groupings at UBC as a collaborative venture.

The School is structured around four divisions:
Occupational and Environmental Health; Health Services and Policy; Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Public Health Practice; and Health in Populations.

The resulting mix of professions and disciplines is seen as a means of connecting individuals and learners to galvanize the relationship between health research, public health and health services and to enhance learning.


WORK PERFORMED

The primary activities of the Research Coordinator include:

  • Contributes to protocol design and methods, and budgets for in-country projects
  • Leads and monitors trial conduct and administration to ensure all activities are conducted per protocol. Notifies PIs of potential or actual risks/threats to project objectives and or completion.
  • Provides leadership in the country to the local team to ensure trial activities are conducted per the protocol and within the trial scope and budget.
  • Leads writing and review of standard operating procedures, as assigned and discusses logistics with Dr. Ogilvie and incountry PI, other Research Investigators and the Research Program Manager. Ensures documentation is consistently maintained as directed by the study protocol.
  • Conducts data collection and completion of protocolspecific documentation as needed.
  • Regular monitoring and reconciliation of trial expenses and overall budget. Trains incountry research team to monitor and track expenses).
  • Acts as a resource to various research team members to identify real or potential problems and works to resolve these issues.
  • Leads and participates in study progress and planning meetings with the research team(s).
  • Generates progress and interim reports for presentation to the national and international investigative teams.
  • Develops abstracts, manuscripts, and presentations for submission and/or presentations as needed.
  • Initiates and assists with UBC and incountry ethics submissions and management of various regulatory documentation.
  • Other duties as needed.
