VIDEO If there is one constancy it is people asking to enlarge the territory on a particular train of thought. Ultimately what that flows towards is not so much enlarging the territory but the more uncomfortable question that increases in numbers of those who say "Manjit, write a book". This is a great human impulse but today we are not simply drowning in the pursuit of happiness, we are drowning in the publications of books. This is not simply the self-help section of a bookstore, it is an exponential production - so much so if we gave a global moratorium on not publishing a book for one year - we would advance as a civilization tapping into all that is presently available - and what is available is a lifetime of books produced every single year.
The "New Home" I am referring to Irene's Buzz comment
#73 is a triad (something that will delight both Ali Anani and Sara Jacobovici) 1. Home as our Thought 2. Home as our Space 3. Home as our Earth
Home as our thought is fortunately is how we learn to swim, rather than drown. No matter if it a buzz by Irene or a book written by me or a selected video from any of many profound thinkers, the home we create in mind is our own to make - whether that home is more than original than the average man, who more imitative than the average man. One thinker is Krishnamurti but there are so many that we must apply decision to look after the home as our thought, where decision means "to cut off choices". Here is Krishnamurti talking on pleasure :
At the level of mind we operate either at a concrete level or at an abstract level. An open mind can switch between concrete and the abstract and that is a living concrete, but other minds can be closed mind and only remain in the concrete. Remaining in the concrete is making one point at a time, focusing all our efforts so communication is understood as if publishing is the only home of thought there is and the concrete can simply only be the territory we draw, and consequently the division or part or specialism that results from that. All good but not whole.
Then there is home as space. Are all homes living or do some of us actually live in tombs? There is only concrete as a tombstone, not living concrete - because if our home is an expression of life, our life is written into the walls itself. Yet we are also willing to create new spaces when we leave one home and move into another. Is not life also like this - and if it is then ancestry becomes much bigger than destiny - our destiny is strongly rooted in ancestry and our ancestry is inscribed into our DNA. Do we really live in a home that is living concrete or do we live in one tombstone and then move to another? In the 21st Century technology makes it possible for families to know their ancestors in ways that we can only contemplate through a DNA test. Home is not just a living concrete because we live there - it is the home where we live, whether that be our house, our workplace or a third place which we occupy between home and work.
Home is also the quality of space that others have built for us, and we only know that when our very home becomes a danger to us - and then there are only symbols of a love that should never have been extinguished
. The Time picture is a highly disturbing but it is meant to show that living concrete is different from concrete. There are people in this world who do think about living concrete, and these architects are invested in seeing the human space. That was not always the case, because architecture in the past itself created inhuman spaces. One of those architects is Jan Gehl, whose architectural philosophy is based on the "human scale". Here is a documentary trailer that features his thinking in "The Human Scale" as the article from Time so infamously described
Then finally there is home as our Earth. I do not mean everybody's Earth, but the Earth that is whole because see it as whole. Here as the Olympics end, I do not focus on the nationality of the winner, unless there is a bigger human story attached to it - but invariably if the story is human then I have no problem in honouring the sense of nationality that inspired greatness. When I am at beBee I am not looking to be the most recognized voice on beBee, but I am on a learning journey - and it is my learning journey. For sure the new age mindset that thinks in terms of me-to-we, is itself not home as Earth but home as thought - in the mind of that human being.
The Earth represents our body and not our brain, because I can give parts of my body to another human being, but I can't put my brain in another human being. If the Earth represents the body, then surely the intelligence comes when it is most whole. I love being at beBee when I see people come to it from different parts of the world, but if their thoughts are homogeneous, it does not mean that they are from a home that is Earth, it means that they still operating from home as thought if we accompany it as a label, or an identity or a way. There is a way I am practicing here and it is Learning Journey, but it is not a prescription for others, it is simply a home on this Earth in a global virtual space called beBee.
